Question for people w/ grip wraps

I don't have any rifles with grip wraps, and I'm not particularly planning to start, but I have a question for those who do use them.

When shooting off-hand, without being able to wrap your thumb around anything, isn't it awkward to change magazine? Once you take your support hand off the rifle, you're basically only holding the rifle by squeezing the grip between your fingers and palm, while the rifle's center of gravity is significantly forward of that. I imagine you counter the rifle's tendency to want to fall forward out of your hand by keeping the butt in your shoulder, but if you break shoulder contact wouldn't it be really easy to accidentally drop the rifle on the ground?

That's the single biggest issue I've seen with grip wraps - one-handed holding of the rifle seems challenging, awkward, and potentially even unsafe.

Am I just imagining this problem, or is this an issue you guys are facing?

I have no problem with holding the rifle /Ar15, AK47/74, SCAR 16/17.../with grip wrap during mag changes. Not hard at all.

Oh, and it makes mag changes WAY easier in other ways.. lol

Put some skateboarder tape on your grip wrap. It will make it much easier to hold.

No problem doing mag changes.

The whole "no pistol grip" is retarded. But, the grip wrap is not that bad. Still retarded.

You get used to it quick. I don't even think about it, just seems normal. I gave up bullet buttons right after i used one. Featureless is the best option for me given the current legal options, by far.

I tend to keep the stock against my shoulder, and yes, Exile's Backfin is even better.

X's 2 for the guys who say it's easy. You keep your stock tuck into your shoulder so your off hand is actually just supporting the weight of your rifle.

Its no problem at all. We are talking about changing mags at the range. No Stress, no pressure, no big deal.

In a doomsday event, pretty sure everyones grip wrap is going off with the twist of two screws.

Makes sense, I had been thinking in terms of doing the mag change with your support hand, but if you switch to doing it with your dominant hand then it would solve that issue

Changing the magazine with a bullet button installed is less awkward?

i move the rifle off my shoulder and pin the buttstock in my armpits while doing mag changes.

that is how i get around the less than optimal grip with the finned grip.

No problem using Monsterman grips on both ARs and AKs.

I haven't used it to do run and guns. Just shot leisurely off hand and at the bench, so mag changes aren't a big deal. But ditching the AK mag-lock is well-worth it.
