One day a shooter we know shows up at the range with a Thompson Contender Super 14 in 45/70,asking if anyone wants to try it.
Everyone there tried it once, nobody tried a second shot.

Russian SKS was very sketchy. I had slam fires, many doubles and triples. That gun was stripped and cleaned so many times before it was taken to a gun smith and some parts were swapped out. I hated that rifle. I did get it fixed, but I never fully trusted it, even though the problem never occurred again. Every time I reloaded that gun I would point it down range like I was shooting it. I never knew when it would go off.

I do that anyway, with all my guns. Rules #1 and #2.

I like to sneakily load in a 3" Turkey magnum with the light loads when I let my friends shoot my pump.
It was just an old plywood boat, with a '75 Johnson, with electric choke. A young boy, two hands on the wheel, I can't replace the way it made me feel.
