Well I WAS at a match, in CA this weekend talking to many people about suppressors and NFA stuff. Weekend before I was at a match in CA talking about suppressors with some buddies from Nevada. So you might want to pull that bus over to the side of the pretentiousness turnpike and rethink your outlook there. I could just have easily been in a gunshop- if I went to them in Commifornia- and had my conversations overheard. The odds of this are literally infinitesimal... its a 99% chance that these were two morons from california who havent read a damn thing about the laws and are about to commit a felony. Its a 1% chance that its a guy, from somewhere out of the state, meeting his buddy, who is also from out of state, at a gunshop in california on a wednesday, and happening to discuss a pet project. We can play "what if's" all day long, but at the end of the day, the people OP was talking about are jackashesFear is the spare change that will keep you broke
Call him run-like-hell-when-shtf-guy or dial-911-guy but NEVER call an unarmed man "Security".Comment

I would have probably informed them.So I was at a lgs yesterday and over heard two guys talking about he just bought a solvent trap and going to turn it into a suppressor. He was telling the other guy that he can order them online and it's legal...
he's telling his friend to commit a felony. What an idiot! I just shook my head and leftComment

You can buy them, but assembling them into a firearm may or may not be legal depending on factors. Both my bolt action 5.56 and my 10-22 clone have threaded barrels with thread protectors installed from the factory, as sold to my via a CA FFL and DROSed etc.
However if I bought a threaded Glock 19 bbl it would be illegal for me to drop it into my Glock while in CA.Comment
