    FFL PPT charges

So, today I go to my local gun shop to do a PPT. I ve done a number there and have bought stuff there. Nice guys. Always the usual $35 PPT charge.
I do the paperwork and hand the owner $35. He says, That will be $60. I say, WHAT!! he says he's losing money on every PPT and his insurance has increased! I'm already too far into the PPT to balk, so I pay the tariff. Never going back there again.

Discreet Defense in Red Bluff did the same thing to me, $60 for PPT which included a 'storage fee'. First time I ever set foot in the place and they jam me up. Saw a bunch of used and consignment guns I might buy there, but I'm never going back.

The owners are also associated somehow with the operation of the Sacramento Gun Club in Rancho Cordova. I will never set foot in that place either.

These threads that complain about FFL's (without ever naming them) are pointless.

It sucks, got it, but keep the complaint to yourself rather than posting it online unless you're going to help your fellow calgunners out.

Along with everything else the Legislature cares nothing about, an FFL losing money on a PPT is there on the list.

              It's PC 28055 -
              28055.

              (a) For a sale, loan, or transfer conducted pursuant to this chapter, the purchaser or transferee or person being loaned the firearm may be required by the dealer to pay a fee not to exceed ten dollars ($10) per firearm.
              (b) No other fee may be charged by the dealer for a sale, loan, or transfer of a firearm conducted pursuant to this chapter, except for the applicable fees that may be charged pursuant to Sections 23690 and 28300 and Article 3 (commencing with Section 28200) of Chapter 6 and forwarded to the Department of Justice, and the fees set forth in Section 31650.
              (c) The dealer may not charge any additional fees.
              (d) Nothing in these provisions shall prevent a dealer from charging a smaller fee.
$10 per firearm, plus applicable DROS ($25 for one firearm).

              Go back.

Point out that among all the laws California imposes, this one is just as binding.

                    I'll name a shop,

Broadway Bait Rod & Gun in Sacramento charged me a storage fee at the same time as the PPT, $45 out the door. when I called to dispute it they claimed to "have looked into it, and it was legal".

Threads like these the store name should be in CAPs, bold, italicized, underlined and 50 font.

Today I went in and did a PPT. Time to pay - propriartor said that will be $60!!!!!!!!!!!! I say What? He says his insurance rates have gone up and he's losing money.! I'm not sure this is even legal
I'm already committed so I pay the price. It appears he is trying to discourage doing PPT. He convinced me! Sad part is, I've bought other stuff in his store. Not any more.

This section of the chapter requiring a dealer to charge no more that $10 on top of the $25 state fee(28055 PC) makes it a misdemeanor to do so, FYI:

28070. A violation of this chapter by a dealer is a misdemeanor.

You can, if you are so inclined, contact the local PD or SO and file a crime report if the responding officer/deputy will do it. From that point, it's up to you how hard you want to push making it a criminal case if the PD or SO won't take a crime report. Good luck.

I PO/SD will take the report... its than up to the DA to file anything... AND I dont see them filing anything unless something MUCH larger comes up. BUT you can still call the CADOJ and file a complaint.
