They way the Safe Mag works is genius, the whole setup is fixed to the rifle by a screw and the release mechanism is actuated by a teeter totter arm when the upper is open, so the mag is automatically released when the upper is open making reloading much faster than other mag lock solutions

Only a matter of time it seems.
I was all set to buy an AR Maglock, then I decided I didn't want to support their shenanigans.
Too bad because the Patriot mag release sounds finicky and the Cross is pricey. Guess i'll just modify my BB to be fixed and wait, but I'm pretty sure Cross will get my business when I feel like buying.Last edited by Xtracrispy; 02-22-2017, 3:28 PM.The actual value of above $.02 is less than $.01 after taxes.

The funny thing about this device, if it turns out it's compliant (and I'm not saying it is), is that it's an even faster and easier way to change magazines than with a bullet button.
Even more ironic, this device would not have been compliant before this year, because it doesn't require a tool
But now we aren't required to use a tool

Assuming this device passes the legal sniff test, our fearless leaders will have unknowingly legalized a better way to change magazines than what we had to do before. That's a pretty big slap in the face to the idiots that wrote this law.

I haven't seen Red-O get called that yet, which is very suspicious to me, and means he's probably a DOJ shill.Comment

Armaglock has fired a salvo at Cross as well.(we checked with Cross) Just a note: We find this product to be phenomenal. We carry it here as well:

This is a very cool set of parts. Not cheap, but very very cool. I love that the side effect of this nonsense is new innovations being developed.
As for "permanent" - NOTHING is "permanent". And, "permanent" is not even defined. One person's "permanent" is another persons 5 minutes of work with the right tools and skill. I would certainly call this "permanent".
I intend to do nothing until the end of the year and see what all options are at that time and if anything changes. No reason to spend $$$ now. No matter what I do, registration is NOT an option.10 +1 in the chamberComment

Having not seen one of the mag releases in person yet, doesn't it kind of look like you can loosen the screws to drop the magazine? Maybe you could verify. Or maybe we can drill out the bolt heads so they can't be unscrewed, like what armaglock tells people to do? That was my original concern with this product, which I don't think anyone has really addressed yet.Armaglock has fired a salvo at Cross as well.(we checked with Cross) Just a note: We find this product to be phenomenal. That takedown pin mechanism is just pure awesomeness though, I really want to try one, may be placing an order soonComment

But so what if you can loosen the screws to drop the mag? That is on you, not them. If you install proper, you should be 100% GTG. As someone else put so well above "The normal operation of the device is designed to comply with the law. You actions to violate the law do not negate that." You can loosen a BB up and drop a mag so.... it's on you, not the product.Having not seen one of the mag releases in person yet, doesn't it kind of look like you can loosen the screws to drop the magazine? Agreed on the takedown pin mechanism.. brillant idea.10 +1 in the chamberComment

Maybe, I don't really want to get into that argument again. If I were to use this product I'd probably at least melt some silver solder into the bolts or something just to be safe, but that's just me. Not really sure, but it looks like those screws are about the only way to get this thing off though, so if something could be done to make them more permanent somehow then I think this device would be compliant by anyone's standards, whether or not it's excessive. But so what if you can loosen the screws to drop the mag? There are some other mag releases (well, assuming armaglock hasn't sued them all out of existence already) where the assembly actually is completely contained within the receiver, so there's no way to get it out without opening the upper or breaking the receiver. The downside is I think most of them require drilling into your receiver. IMO those such devices are a little less risky - my plan was to use a mag release like that, combined with this Cross Armory takedown pin mechanism.Last edited by CandG; 02-22-2017, 4:21 PM.Comment

Yeah, I wouldn't do anything in any way to modify the product. No need.
And, if you try to do one of your mods, I can 100% assure you, with a "tool" I can undo what you have done so... was it really "more permanent" - which is a total oxymoron
- or necessary to damage the product?
Again, with a BB, I can use a tool to make it inoperable and drop mags. With this, you might be able to use a tool to circumvent it. But that is on you, not the product. Install it as intended, you are fine. It is "permanent" as it is sold.10 +1 in the chamberComment

Yep, but the more options to pick from, the better. I haven't decided exactly what I'm doing yet, but when I do decide, I'd rather have 25 different choices than only 1 or two.
I don't know if I'll do this Cross Armory solution, but what I do know is that before I saw it, I had completely ruled out doing a fixed magazine. Now I realize that perhaps it doesn't have to be as awful as it was when armaglock-type devices were the only choice. Likewise, I had completely ruled out doing a featureless too, until I saw a couple of the new grip options that have come out recently. Now it's sort of a 3-way tie between all those, and registering. Right now, I'm still leaning towards registering since I haven't seen any compelling arguments against it, but there's still 10 more months to debate it and see what kinds of new options become available.Comment

i installed this on my ar. only 140 bux at a gun show. and the mag lock part isnt working properly. seems like with only my older pmags, it wont chamber a rd. i thin it has to do with more this mag itself. gonna by a new pmag and see if the problem persists. when i say wont chamber, i mean the bolt slides forward and doesnt scoop a rd. it hits the rd half way and dents the case stopping the bolt.Comment

These are the hottest device selling now. Super fast and definitely a must have on any 2017 compliant AR. Cross says a AR-10 version is coming out in June!
