    Switching Cleaners

I am thinking of switching from a liquid type cleaner and lube to a spray dry lube. This would be used on both my semi automatic pistol and revolver. Comments? Pros, Cons?

My basic question is... What do you think of products like Gunzilla or Hornadys One Shot as the sole cleaning and lube product for your guns.

Is there anything such thing as a dry spray lube?

To spray, it would need propellant, that is not dry.

It dries. I use TEF on things but never guns. Too messy and gets everywhere. Doubt one is made for firearms. not usually designed for high temps.

I use Gunzilla, which seems to work like most spray-on dry lubes in that the liquid carrier eventually dries and leaves a dry film of lube behind. Seems to clean and lube very well, no issues with it whatsoever.

I use Hornady OneShot (cleaner and dry-lube in one). Love the stuff, use it on all my firearms now.

For high-friction areas (slide rails, etc), I also add some Tetra gun grease before reassembly.

That's been the winning combo for me so far.
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

I use Hornady one shot now too, but I haven't used it long enough to report one way or another about it yet. I like using it over the oil I normally use because it's more convenient to apply, but it goes quickly so may be expensive in the long run.

Yep, I've been buying cans by the half dozen for about $10 per can. 1 can doesn't go as far as you'd think, for sure. But since I don't usually clean all my guns after every range trip, it hasn't been too painful.

My mama once told me, unless I roll all day in a sand box, I should use grease on my AK rails. Maybe mama was not familiar with dry lube. Do you roll in sand often?

It's not so much about dirt/sand not getting stuck to the oil (although that is part of it), I like it because it's just generally cleaner. And my guns aren't always slippery to hold anymore. In my carry weapons, usually I can just field strip them and blow out the lint occasionally, and put it back together. With oil, getting the lint out requires a full cleaning.

I'll admit, nothing beats the smell of good ol' Hoppes #9 though. The dry lube smells like crap. But if it works it works, I just hold my nose when I spray it

I just mixed up a batch of Ed's Red for the first time and I'm having good results. I've recleaned previously "clean" guns and it's suprising how much more gunk comes off. I'm still lubing with Froglube until it's all gone and I'll probably switch to ALG Defense Purple Go Juice, or maybe just some plain old Mobil oil I have left over from an oil change.

In case you don't know Ed's red is all equal parts Automatic Transmission Fluid, Acetone, Mineral Spirits, and Kerosene.

In other words, Marvel Mystery oil.
I like the fancy sprays. M pro 7 and Hoppe's makes good ones. I just always seam to go back to Hoppe's #9, simple green and brakleen (the red can).

I would stop using the Frog Lube ASAP, unless you don't mind gunking up your firearms with mint-scented coconut oil.

Wish I was kidding... someone dug up the MSDS sheet on it, and those are the only 2 ingredients.

Marvel Mystery Oil is: 74% baby oil, 25% paint thinner, and 1% pig fat.

I'm not usually a big fan of our government, but I LOVE it when their investigations reveal how "snake oil" products are actually made
