I'll shoot whatever the range allows but for rifles I would prefer serious long distance shooting and not a 25 yard sighting it in range.

I don't shoot anything, I just collect them and let them gather dust while I think about shooting them.

Eh, i beg to differ but i can see how a true newbie may be more likely to lose awareness with a pistol. However, i dont think its right to relegate a new shooter to a rifle for that reason

No, not pre-law, I'm older than that. LAW are the first three letters of my name. I'm mostly a handgun guy and had the opportunity to shoot a friends AR15 .223 and Ruger .22 rifle recently. We shot a bunch of handguns as well, and I found myself having much more fun with the handguns (S&W 357, Sig 226, Glock 19, Springer 1911). AR15 was pretty neat to shoot but the Ruger 10/22 did nothing for me, it was like shooting an air rifle. I feel tempted to invest in a rifle, maybe more practice will lead to the appreciation of the skills involved in rifle shooting? Just don't want to invest in a rifle and not use it, because I have more fun with handguns....I know, what dilemma. Did most of you feel the same when you began shooting rifles?

To me rifles are way more fun. Take a class or two and start running drills from it and ones you find on your own.
