Maybe it is time to use frangible Ammo at ranges

Guys I've read two sad accounts in the last year regarding a fellow shooter losing their life at a range due to ricochet. Maybe it is time we start thinking about frangible Ammo.

Check out this documentary on Ammo. The military discusses why they like frangible about half way thru: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ah_hvmVfTa8

Without even looking up your linked video
    And...
With complete sympathy for range accidents...

Have you looked at the cost of frangible?

Sure our taxes can afford to buy it for the military, but...as far as your idea...

    I'm out

Two out of the millions of people going to the range multiple times a year? You stand better odds being killed in a crosswalk than at a well-controlled range.

Instead of a mandate for frangible rounds, how about letting the inevitable lawsuit make it more attractive for range operators to ensure their lanes are suitably maintained.

About double, and in 45acp it's under 150gr vs standard 230gr, so it won't react, run, or sight in the same as your defensive ammo.

Most gun manufacturers include cautions against running frangible... has to do with the barrel design.

Yes they are. There are risks in life with everything, your chances of be hit by a ricochet are less then being hit by a car. So when someone comes up with a car that will fragment on impact and not hurt anyone, then I'll think about safer ammo.

With complete disregard for the statistics you would mandate that anyone shooting at a public range be required to use hard to find and expensive ammunition because 'it just might save one life'? I think I've heard something like that before.

Have you looked for frangible ammo? Care to find factory loaded frangible ammo for 300 WM, .30-30, .45-70, .45 LC?

Also, could you post links to any official accounts or even news records of these fatal accidents? Ricochets generally don't carry much energy.

Why not just switch to rubber bullets, or heck even pellet guns.
