Lets see those 2017 Mag Magnet Buttons!

What? No sir, that there is a dust cover for the bullet button. Have you ever tried pushing a bullet button once sand has entered? the proper use is to remove said magnetic cover and use a tool to depress the mag release.Comment

Well, I guess the manufacturer doesn't know that. This from their own web site:
The Mag Magnet should never be left on your AR Rifle while inside of California. This item is best used when traveling outside of California for temporary use of your bullet button as a standard mag release and then removed when re-entering California to adhere to the mandatory fixed magazine situation. Use in California, if left on gun, constitutes an illegal Assault Weapon situation and should be avoided. Includes a convenient storage pin to store the Mag Magnet when not in use.Comment

That is just legal mumbo jumbo because they dont want to get caught up in the fight, they just want to make some money, good ole American capitalism at its best!Well, I guess the manufacturer doesn't know that. This from their own web site:
The Mag Magnet should never be left on your AR Rifle while inside of California. This item is best used when traveling outside of California for temporary use of your bullet button as a standard mag release and then removed when re-entering California to adhere to the mandatory fixed magazine situation. 1- A Bullet Button is not a fixed magazine.
2- A SACF rifle with a BB and an evil feature is an AW.
3- New AW law clearly states a BB is a device where a tool is needed to detach a magazine and a Detachable magazine needs a tool and furthermore ...a BB + mag button is a detachable magazine. They are all the same thing as per the law.
4- Under the new AW registration law, the only prohibited thing is changing the release mechanism.
read for yourself, bold added for clarity
5471. Registration of Assault Weapons Pursuant to Penal -Code Section 30900(b)(1);Explanation of Terms Related to Assault Weapon Designation
1- (f) "Bullet-button" means a product requiring a tool to remove an ammunition feeding device
2- (also 5471 (f) says bullet-button equipped fully functional semiautomatic firearm does not meet the fixed magazine definition under Penal Code section 30515(b)
3- (m) A Detachable magazine is one that can be removed without disassembly of the action or use of a tool. Please read #1 again.
a BB equipped firearm has a detachable magazine as per the AW law.
4- Under (m) they specifically state a BB+mag button is a detachable magazine. Why? Because a BB is a release device requiring a tool and is not a fixed magazine and if a tool is required its a detachable magazine, and a mag button doesnt change what it is.
5- 5477 states after registration the magazine release mechanism cant be changed.
The only thing a person needs to worry about after registration is what the word "change" means.
The only thing a person needs to worry about prior to registration is does the addition of a tool on the firearm void the legality of the ownership prior to 2017, and there is no law that supports that.
6-up til 2017 regulations, there was no law or regulation that defined what a BB+mag button was. We all shied away from doing that because we felt the legality of a the BB was in the fact the firearm itself lacked a detachable magazine without a tool, so the addition of the tool gave the firearm itself the ability to detach the magazine. That was never proven in court nor was there ever a law stating that.Comment

I know you think this is funny, but IMO these dip*****s are the reason why our friends in Sacramento went defcon 1 on the bullet button. The fact their own promotional video was filmed outside of CA should have given people pause on this product. The media who covered this product as well as our legislatures used this very product to report it made your neutered AR pattern rifle fully automatic. The bullet button was a genius product that followed the law to the letter, the mag magnet killed it.Comment

When those first came out I had to return a dust cover to it's owner when it came bouncing merrily into my lane... hope they've beefed up the magnets a little.

I'm not sure why you feel a mag magnet is acceptable now since section 5471(m) of the new regs sayAn AR-15 style firearm that has a bullet-button style magazine release with a magnet left on the bullet button constitutes a detachable magazine.Comment

True, but it's something that can be removed so quickly. When the firearm is stored it can easily be removed prior to putting it in the safe. It's a real loophole, the only ones who will get caught will be those who use it at the range or when traveling have it installed and affixed to the firearm.
