    Do you tip safe installers?

Do you tip safe installers? I have a company with two guys installing a 600lb safe into the first floor. They think the job should be done in half an hour.

Do you normally tip these guys?

I did. Not much ($40 each?), but my install was trickier and more time consuming than I expected.

If nothing else, it will help acquire their silence.

Add: they also took great care to balance and center the install very precisely- I appreciate that.

Haven't had the specific opportunity but typically, for someone coming inside my home and servicing, I will guarantee tip at least lunch ($10 ~). If the service was extraordinary or lengthy, more.

It's a goodwill thing, which I feel is important with people who are going to be inside your home.

Most definitely tip them. Even if it's lunch money like poster said above.

Nope, only food servers or other types of service like bell hop, barbershop

food servers rely on tips, safe installers already get regular pay

Servers in California will be earning $11.50 an hour in January, 2017. One could argue they already earn a pretty good salary. In a few years they will be earning $15 an hour, which is what I make as their MANAGER. Servers do not need special treatment; they live the good life as it is.

OP, tip if you feel like it...

I did. $50 for two guys.
They were very professional and careful and secured it to the floor and wall for me.

I tend to tip anyone who comes to my home to provide a service. There are a few exceptions.

I sometimes tip half up front and let them know it's half. Typically get improved results. Simple things like wiping their feet on the door mat. Less like to mar a wall. Better cleanup afterwards. It's worth it usually.

Ok, good pointers guys. After seeing how hard these guys work, they definitely deserve the tip.

Everybody gets tipped, but the photobooth guy! At events, I always go above and beyond and even stay longer when someone comes up to me as I'm tearing down and says that they just got there and didn't get their pictures taken, but nope, never a tip.

In the 4 years that I have been doing this, I can count on one hand how many times I've been tipped at the end.

OP, tip if you feel like it, but not required.

I tip everyone except for the photobooth guy. Pushing a shutter release just doesn't take that much skill or effort.

I would definitely tip the safe installers and make sure they know how much I appreciate their efforts. Having installed several safes, I know it can be hard work, and the guy that installed a safe in my upstairs office earned whatever pittance they paid him, as well as a good tip.

Nope. Already paid them to move it a couple feet and bolt it down, that's their job.

In ancient Egypt they'd have been killed right after the install. No one would know about your safe and its location that way.
