Funny, I can hit targets out to 1400 yards just fine and I don't use a 25-yard zero.

I know if you are within 25-255 yards my bullet trajectory will be 3.5" high at most at approx 150 yards, through the distance and 5" low at 320 yards...meaning I know exactly where to aim to hit my target. So...if I'm aiming at your chest anywhere between 25-260 yards. I'll hit you somewhere between the head and the belly...it takes the guess work out of it.
The problem is, we're probably coming at this from different perspectives. Seems like you're referring to Point Blank Range. But I'm not too concerned with PBR because I shoot long-range tactical competitions and I dial my scope or use my reticle to hold over. You? Maybe you're a soldier using an AR15 with a RDS or fixed-power optic like a 4x. No idea what your context here is. Different applications. Different intent.

I've still never met anybody who zeros (a rifle) at 25 yards. Doesn't mean it isn't a thing. I've just not seen it.

True, I never think of shooting a rifle at close ranges, as a target shooter, it's not in my DNA. The tactical guys are doing all kinds of crazy things.

OP, do you have a GPS app on your cell phone? The accuracy of GPS is about a yard so for 25 or more it's good to go. You should be able to figure out how to set firing line as home and then see your distance to home.

Question: How many countries in the world have not officially switched to the SI (International System of Units), or modern metric system?

Answer: Three - The U.S., Liberia, and Burma.

This thread has almost as much potential as the 5.11 trousers/mall ninja one.

I use the crow-fly method to measure.

Someone told me that I can count my steps and at 10 yards is roughly 12 steps.

I'm a hunter. My range is 25 yards to 400 yards with my hinting rifle a Remington 700 CDL in .30-06

And you are back peddling...You asked,

Who the **** zeros at 155 yards or 137 yards?"
Now you're a long range shooter...

                      Ahh the 25 yard zero

Works great on a .270win....run the ballistics

Zeroed in at 25 yds allows a hunter to simply line up the sights. No need for holdover.

The bullet will be in the vitals (approximately 10 inch circle) from 25yds all the way out to 375 yards.

Now if I remember the 300wsm is a 275yard zero. This will put you 7 inch high at 100 yards. 10 inches low at 450.

The .mil uses a 25m zeroing target for the M16/M4. Its a thing whether the rest of us use it or not. Personally I have used it and I'm happy with the results but I'm not shooting long range or extreme long range or any of that. I just want to be able to make a hit from up close to 200 yds with an AR.

If you have trouble walking a straight line toe to toe,
You probably shouldn't be shooting guns...

Learn to measure by stadia. But, for getting close at 25 yards or less, just pace it. You should first know your average number of paces for 25 yards. So, measure it out and pace it a few times to get an average pace count.
