Smith & Wesson changing its corporate name.

Just saw this, but it looks like the firearm division is keeping the name. So no rush to buy whats left we can get our hands on I guess.....

Wonder how long it will take for the firearms division to assume the new name.... hopefully never. Still kinda disappointing to me.

Smith & Wesson changing its corporate name.

Early next year it will become American outdoor Brands Corp.

At least they were smart enough not to change the name of their firearms.

Why would they give up such an iconic name? Are they planning to diversify ?

Seems like they want to be known as an outdoor company on the stock market. Sounds less evil.

Kind of a misleading headline, since Smith & Wesson Holding Corp, is the one actually changing their name, not Smith & Wesson Corp.

Anti's sometimes demand their government pensions not invest in firearms companies. Easy sidestep.

they are talking about the name of the holding company that owns S&W.

S&W holding company owns S&W, Crimson Trace, and other companies. the holding company is changing names to American Outdoor Brands. who cares what the holding company's name is.

the S&W brand name on the firearms is not changing.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Actually, what we have here is sloppy and misleading reporting of a very technical matter. The company changing its name is Smith and Wesson Holdings Corporation.

S&W Holdings is what's called a holding company. It exists solely to be the shareholder of other corporations which do things. So S&W Holdings owns all of the stock of a number of corporations, including Smith and Wesson Corporation.

So Smith and Wesson Corporation will continue to exist and make guns.
"It is long been a principle of ours that one is no more armed because he has possession of a firearm than he is a musician because he owns a piano. There is no point in having a gun if you are not capable of using it skillfully." -- Jeff Cooper

They are a diversified public company who compete in the same space as other diversified public companies such as Vista Outdoors. The name change is to attract investors. It will have no effect at the consumer level.

Gun people are funny. I am pretty sure a lot of them actually believe the ArmaLite Company of Geneseo IL invented the AR-15.

I would buy a turd branded "Smith and Wesson" long before I would buy one branded "American Outdoor Brands". Not that I would ever buy a turd since I "cast my own", but just sayin'.

ArmaLite Corporation invented the AR15 in California, no such thing as ArmaLite Company.
