This just sounds weird. So this is a AR 10 type rifle, right? What brand is the gun? Or is it Frankengun? I'm just trying to understand what used AR 10 lower would cost $1700? Is it a KAC or something super high end?

How much could the dealer possibly be out if he let the whole gun go for $1700?

And how did the dealer make this error? Was he parting out the gun and an employee misunderstood and thought $1700 was for the whole gun or something?

What a mess. Sorry for your troubles OP. Hope you're able to workout a solution.

It's your upper. The dealer can't sell you your upper. He can lie about just selling you the lower but it's an uphill battle trying to rationalize a $1700 lower. Curious to know what brand it is.

This should be an easy win for you. Keep us updated.

        L84cabo -

Answer to your question... It is a PWS 7" 7.62x39 upper (long piston)with sure fire muzzle break sitting on top of Hydra Marck-15 multi caliber lower currently with a Ar-15 magwell but it should presumably have the AK magwell piece as well. It also has a phase 5 buffer tube and a sig gen1 arm brace.

To reiterate - I paid almost $1700 tax out the door so it was more like $1500.

        Essentially a frankengun 7.62 pistol

Interesting thought.... since I bought it all together but the lower is the part that gets DROSED and has the 10 day wait, could I have walked out with the upper? Can I go in tomorrow and get the upper? I imagine not but on the other hand if I just walked in and bought an upper you can walk out with it right!?!

California might be a little different ? .
But YES I would have, right after the dros was signed and you had the receipt for purchase.

I believe a lower is marked differently on a dros than a complete gun. Do you have a copy of the dros? Also, you said it was a ppt, but then said you paid tax on it?

                    +1 on all the above

If you kept the dros receipt and have pictures the dealer has no recourse. This is definitely a shady situation by how you have described it. Take your information and stand firm. And, too late, but you should have left with the upper. Good luck and let us know how it works out.

                      $1700 for a 7.62 pistol?

The oddities of this thread are stacking up.

Does PWS even offer this type of upper? I don't see it on their site.

The problem is that he's not going to give you the upper. Or lie about whether the DROS was approved. So you'll have to decide what to do if you refuse and he gives you only the lower. At that point if you refuse to take only the lower and take him to court, it will be next year before you get the gun even if you do win.

If he lets you have just the lower you could take it and hope to get the upper after winning a court case. Whatever you decide, take a friend (aka "witness") with you when you go to pick it up.

I agree with the guy above that said it looks like he got offered more money. I've had that happen to me with a car. I gave the guy a deposit and he signed an agreement, but then later said he wanted to sell it to his sister and backed out of our deal.

The lower with 5.56 magwell is $524 directly from MGI.

Could the seller be adding a $1200 premium to the lower because it was DROSed as a pistol?

On the other hand, the PWS 7" upper in 5.56 is $1350 new from PWS How much more would a 7.62x39 barrel and bolt add?

You already DROS the full pistol. It's yours. A lower would be DROS differently.

Why was there tax on a PPT? No tax on a PPT.
