    AR Pistol and Maglock question

Hi All, I am sure someone has answered these questions but I've been reading a few threads and couldn't find all the answers. I see the Mod is deleting registration related threads and although that forms part of this thread its not the majority (so hopefully it will stay):

I moved from TX 5 years ago and bought my Sig p556 SWAT Pistol, a few of other handguns and a Daniel Defense v7 LW with me. I registered all pistols, ensured I only had 10 capacity mags for all and put bullet buttons on both the AR15s.

I completely missed the new laws but it seems I need to get AR Maglocks for both AR15s (although I am not sure if that actually resolves the issue completely). The Pistol is registered as a pistol and the rifle isn't registered.

I'm getting some conflicting information from friends, I have no issues with registering them as assault weapons although I can't find any option on the CRIS site to register them as Assault weapons just the usual registration. I gather that's because it hasn't been set up yet. Anyway a few questions I have:

What are other people doing here with their ARs and specifically AR Pistol owners?

Should I add a maglock now to play it safe until registration is possible?

    Cheers

If you have non- registered long guns, go featureless. Any bought 2014 on got registered, so it really doesn't matter. The pistol is steady registered so again it really doesn't matter.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, you're doing it all wrong.

The CA DOJ BOF online assault weapons registration website will not be available to the public until 2017.

When exactly that is and what the procedure requires has also not be released, due to CA DOJ BOF not having finalized the regulations governing the changes to the assault weapons laws.

        Starting 01-01-2017...
If it has a "bullet button" maglock, then it is considered an assault weapon.

You will then have until 12-31-2017 to do one of the following:
        A. Register it as an assault weapon.
        B. Make it compliant by replacing the "bullet button" maglock with a fixed 10 round magazine.
        C. Sell it to a CA FFL dealer with an assault weapons permit.
        D. Take it out-of-state in order to store it or to transfer it through an out-of-state FFL dealer.
        E. Make it permanently inoperable (destroy it).
        F. Surrender it to law enforcement for destruction.

If they are currently CA legal (have "bullet button" maglocks installed), then nothing needs to be done. Because possession will still be CA legal until 01-01-2018.

You can also use the ARMAGLOCK or bullet button reloaded, it is a mag lock that requires you to pull the rear takedown pin and lift the upper slightly to remove the mag. This makes it compliant because you have to open the action to remove

you'll probably have to pin and weld the muzzle brake since pistol can't have a threaded barrel. And definitely go with the AR MAGLOCK over the Bullet Button Reloaded. by far a much better design and AR MAGLOCK holds the patent for the design and function.

                  Nope.

Semi-auto pistol that accept detachable magazines can not have a threaded barrel.

Threaded barrel not installed (by itself) = legal

Well it hasn't been determined (and probably won't be determined) that the ARmaglock, patriot or BBR constitutes fixed/detachable etc etc etc. which is why I said you "probably" have to. i may be wrong...and certainly hope so

Illegal meaning that it becomes an CA Assault Weapon on 1/1/17, correct? So it will need to be registered by 12/31/17?

Sorry to thread jack, but its kind of related...

Been thinking about this...Removing the bolt catch adds a bit of efficiency when reloading using bbreloaded or armaglock. But not having the catch might cause difficulties clearing a jam or something. So, not sure what to do. Anyone else considering removing the bolt catch? Additional pros/cons?

It is impossible to make an AR pistol featureless under SB 880, so why pin it? The mag is outside the grip, and AR pistols would be pretty lame without the handguard (other evil features). So if the ArMaglock and BB2 are challenged in court and deemed not to constitute a fixed magazine, then you have to register it by 12/31/17 or remove from state. I am certain these items will suffice and render these as a "fixed magazine" under the law, and the CA libtard lawmakers will have to sukit.
