Gun Trust

There is no reason to make a separate trust in MY case. There is one Trust and it holds everything and I can add or subtract from it as needed, I think it costs me a hundo or so for whatever filing fees are involved. If I buy or sell a vehicle or gun I just update the trust. Easy peasy. My trust was done when only I had to have an ATF BGC for the cans etc., so my wife,son, and buddy were added without having to go through a BGC. Anyone I might add in the future will have to, and I am not sue if I add another can or something if everyone on the trust would have to have a BGC done, so thats something you would need to check into with your lawyer.

Recommend any lawyer?

Gun trusts remain a useful tool for estate planning in California. They can't be used to evade California assault weapon laws, but I can't imagine why anyone would believe they could be in the first place.

There is a Calguns member called guntrust who is an attorney specializing in gun trusts. If you look at his posting history, you can see he has a lot of interesting things to say about gun trusts in California. He also has a website: http://lawnews.tv/guntrust-org/

I don't know anything else about this guy.

The lawyer I used to originally set up the trust is in CO, and my new lawyer is in TN, so not sure my recommendation would do you any good. Just find a firearms friendly lawyer that does estate planning and you will be good to go.

I used Jim Willi in Austin. Awesome guy/office to work with. Back when I was looking he was the closest guy I could find who did NFA trusts to Fort hood

There are a lot of wildly inaccurate statements on this thread.

Keep in mind this is estate planning (which people care about if they have families), and every state is different.

You need an estate plan that is drafted for CA, and not just a gun trust (you may not want a gun trust), but your wills and powers of attorney should be drafted with guns in mind.
