    Question about - REGISTRATION

    Hi guys,

I'm curious to find out how people are handling most average guns + the registrations laws. In which of the following would you need to register with DOJ, and by when? And is there a way around it?

    1. An AR with bullet button.
    2. An average Semi auto pistol (without CA LCI recently found)in 9mm. AND CA LCI models.
    3. Shotgun
    4. SKS
    5. 22LR semi-auto rifle.

    Going forward - Future Purchases:
People are leaning towards 22LR Bolt action, or 22LR Pistol, or a 223 in bolt action (all of these comply with CA laws and are under the radar)

    THANKS so much in Advance!!!

Assuming that you bought the item's you own in California, the only thing that needs to be registered due to new law's is the AR. Yes there is a way around registration, you would need to make the rifle featureless. As far as I know the registration period will open on or around 1/1/2017 and end 12/31/2017 for anything the state has determined to be an evil assault weapon that you owned prior to 12/31/2016.

AR/AK pistols by design cannot be featureless and will need to be registered.

              Take that AR and (1-1-17)

              1. Remove the bullet button and install a normal mag button

              2. Remove the pistol grip and install a hammer head Stock adapter.

              3. Remove your flash hider and leave bare or install a thread protector.

              4. Pin you stock open enough to give you 30 inches of OAL. Or replace with an

You're done. No RAW required. Travel, shoot, sell, let your kids shoot it.

Drop 10 round mags with your finger.

                ^ ^

                Clock is ticking so quickly...

Is there a way we can make the telescoping stock into a non-telescopic (AR looking) stock? Wouldn't that make it featureless?

Removing flash-hider isn't easy...besides it protects the crown, nothing "assault" about it

How All other guns in general, do they need to be registered too? And any future retail or PTP purchases need registration ?

Any semi-auto pistol with a detachable mag outside of the grip is an AW. Since you would be getting rid of the "evil" features to drop mags with a standard mag release you would have then manufactured an AW.

You could throw a grip fin on it and keep the BB but there's really no point to that is there?

OP do not think featureless will keep you from registering.
What will you do when they ban that as well? And they will ban it. It's just a matter of time...

                            3. Shotgun
                            4. SKS
                            5. 22LR semi-auto rifle.
The new laws, as far as we can tell, only impact #1.
The bullet button becomes useless after Jan 1.
Register before the end of 2017, or, BEFORE Jan 1 2017, convert to featureless or a fixed magazine that meets the 2017 definition.

At this time, we are unclear on #3. It appears that the new laws are not changing anything WRT shotguns because the language describing an assault weapon was not changed.
I suspect that we will not know with any certainty until there is a test case.

SKS remains unchanged as it is inherently featureless. The "with fixed magazine" was specified to exempt a particular type of SKS from the original ban. That language has not changed.

No changes on rimfire rifles, they are and will remain exempt from AW laws.
Rimfire pistols are not exempt and the new laws will impact them.

I have a CA compliant AR. In 2017, I can remove the button button and install OEM magazine release and register it? I'm good to go then?
