Yep. My wife and I are empty nesters. We have a Remington 870 and a Benelli M4 in our bedroom. The locks and deadbolts are our first line of defense. A pair of German Shepherds are the second.

If an intruder somehow makes it past that, they're in a heap of trouble.

Sure, if you have never had any low light training and no grasp on the proper use of a white light. But sure, continue to spread the ignorance. Hopefully you can justify shooting at a shadow in a corner.

Shotguns at short range have a tiny pattern (under 50ft or so), so "you don't need to aim" is wrong.

To the OP, AR with an aimpoint and surefire momentary only white light.

+1000000000000000. Also, under time there is little difference between sending 00 buck on a shotgun and pressing the trigger to send multiple vastly more effective rounds of 5.56 on an AR. Personally i hate the idea of people buying a shotgun for "the spread". Its ****ing irresponsible and illustrates their laziness to get actual training.

please also plan your shot location and angles so you don't kill your neighbor.

Dropping down to a knee and shooting at an upward direction if possible can do miraculous things for sending rounds into high wall should you unfortunately get a clean T&T or even worse fully miss.

I'll stick to my shotguns, thanks,

ARs and AKs will work, too.

                          Personal preference, yes?

I think you are wrong, and you seem to think I don't know what I'm talking about. It doesn't matter, let OP decide what is good for him to follow.
                            Follow?

                            OP asked about mounting a light on a Mini14 and a PC9.

There was an amazing amount of digression in this thread, even by calguns standards.

Ok, I'll bite. So adding a weapon mounted light for an HD weapon is always a bad idea?

I'm definitely interested in your response, since I have an 870 with a sure fire forend...

We're talking home defense here... I see a light mounted firearm akin to racking the slide to scare the bad guy. There is a better way to accomplish the same task without painting a target on your face.
Who in the thread advocated a WML as a sole light source?

Why do you assume that the WML is used for searching?

How much low light training have you had?
