    Triple B Sporting Clays rant

Just another crappy time at Tripple B's...

This isn't my first time ranting about Tripple B's either.

So my girlfriend has a couple of her girl friends wanted us to take them out shooting and teach them how to shoot, as per usually with new shooters we say sure always down to help new shooters. So they find the groupon deal for Tripple B which incudes 2 rental guns, 1 golf kart, 60 targets, 50 rounds, supplied instructor, ears and eyes and some other small stuff for beginners.

I tell them yea that's a good deal buy it. So they buy the group on on Tuesday and we head over there today (Saturday). We come up to the desk, we check in while the girls take their tests. Both pass, one with a 100% and the other with 1 answer missed. All fine until this part.

They ask what we need and we bring up their group on and they ask did we make a reservation for an instructor.. They didn't know they needed to reserve an instructor (Groupon doesn't say anything about that just that one is included.) I figured but group on didn't mention anything so I too even expected they have a way to work it out. How would new shooters expect to know they need to reserve a instructor on their own if they have never even shot or been there before..

So the girls tell us "yea no reservation = no instructor." I tell them that's fine I was planning on teaching you guys anyways. I prefer to lead my groups because I like being sure I cover all the basics under my instruction. So they start checking in other customers and we're sitting there wondering ok..? so no instructor so what about the rentals and golf kart they paid for.. cause they kind of just left us in limbo on what happens now since they won't give a instructor.

So we ask about the rentals, kart and gear they paid for since that's all we needed from the group on anyways. Then they tell them nope no instructor = no guns, kart or anything. But what we will do is exchange the difference for 250 clay targets..... well wtf good is that if they can't get rental guns or anything to f***n shoot wth?!

So this is where I step in and try to figure this out. Just about st this time the (manager?) just happens to come out of the back. So I'm explaining I'm going to teach them can they just get everything it's not like they will be out there by them selves.

The manager steps in and says well she shouldn't have even given you guys the target difference that's only for expired group ons.. So we're kind of confused on what we need to do to get them their stuff so we can just go shoot. So we say fine can we just rent the guns? Sure for another $25 per gun. Ok fine.

Then they say well they are first timers so they can't rent a gun. (I understand and get this rule but still) Wtf? Even with me? Yea they can't rent it.

Then the manager starts giving this attitude as if we're trying to scam or screw them. She then grabs a shotgun and shoves it at them and says "ok show me what you do...." I didn't even understand wtf she wanted them to do. So nervously they mounts the gun wrong and she takes it back and shoves it at the other girl and says "wrong!" Same thing they don't know how to react and she says "Wrong!" Then tells us "both of you girls said you have shot before?! You can't even mount the gun." Mind you all this time she is rolling her eyes, huffing and buffing and being down right rude and unprofessional like a spoiled brat teenager giving attitude. The girls reply "yea we have! it's just been a while since I've shot a shotgun...?" As they look at me like is this how shooting ranges treat people?! Note this entire time she is making them aim and mount the gun she is standing with her finger in the muzzle and making them aim at her chest and face. Which pisses me off because that is NOT safe gun handling.

And she has this attitude like she's about to kick us out of the god dam shop?! So I tell her they are new... of course they don't know how to mount the gun. WHICH IS WHY I BROUGHT THEM HERE... to teach them but im waiting until we get in a place I can have them safety aim and mount the gun aka the sporting clay field (still staying calm but I'm getting fed up with this attitude).

Then she asks very aggressively and unprofessional to my girl friend "can you even shoot a gun?" "What guns do you have?!" My girlfriend answers yes I own 3 of my own guns. So she asks where you put it and my girlfriend points at her shouldure and she starts being picky and says WRONG!

She then points the gun behind the register almost at her employees and customers. Then shoves it back at the new girls and makes them mount it with her finger still in the barrel and then she has them aim it at her face. I'm about the fckn lose it at this point. Then she says well they could just use your guns they don't need a rental..

She then is still giving attitude and says you will have to rent the guns. BUT YOU WILL BE LIABLE FOR ANYTHING THEY DO. With this tone of yea they will ahoot someone so you are going to be responsible.

I reply FINE. So to cut a long story short the girls end up spending $230 rather than the $115 for the group on and have 250 targets to shoot. The girls were very uncomfortable and very disrespected and pissed at how she treated us. Not only that they didn't even supply eyes or ears which again they already paid for. They made the girls pay for those extra as well. Even tho that was listed in the group on.

There was more things but the story is already long enough. But the pro shop seriously ruins this place with their elitism and attitudes towards new shooters. Which sucks too is as we finally got done with this BS two new groups walked in talking about their group on guys too. Later on we see them with no kart or instructor. Aka they didn't reserve one either. And got scammed into paying $115 for the group on... and then buying the gear after the fact.

I'm sure I'll be back to waste the extra 135 Clays we still have on the key... but I do not look forward to dealing with this range anymore.

If your new or have not been to Tripple B or plan to buy the group on do NOT do it. Prado or rahhagues is much more deserving of your money and time. Avoid this facility at all costs if you have the option or need to rent.

    TLDR;
    paid for group on
    didn't honor it
    manager has major attitude
    Completely unsafe gun handling
Girls were scammed into spending $225 or more vs the $115 group on purchased
Horrible experience do not shoot here

You need to go on "Yelp" and give them a bad review. They have way to many good reviews. I looked them up because I was curious after reading your post. You should slam them where everybody can see it.

I've already posted a bad yelp from 3 years ago when we had our first bad run in with them. You can only write one bad review on yelp per business.

One of the girls who bought the group-on said she left a negative yelp review today since they spent double what they originally paid for and got half of what the young paid for.

Sad. I hate to see new shooters get screwed around with.........especially when they have an experienced shooter with them. Not good for our sport.
Sorry to say I see this more with the shotgun shooting. I have especially seen it with trap shooting. Seem there are a lot of pompous, self-rightest, jerks in that group. I started hunting(vs. their game) with a shotgun when I was in grammar school. We also shot clays on the ranch for fun. However I will never go to the trap range at the club(s) I belong to and put up with the elite, snobs which shoot there.

This does not help our sport.

            ><

If your going to use those extra clays, my I suggest the SoCal Clinic run by Calgunners....Best instruction at a great price.

You can always reach out to the community before an outing such as yours to gain some insight and info...there are people here who shoot there or are instructors or just have general info to pass on.

Hope this experience did not turn anyone off to the sport of clay shooting....that would be the worst thing to happen based on one experience

I suppose you could just sell the 135 rounds on the key on CGN. I seriously consider that and then never going back. Sucks you had those problems I rarely go but never had that kind of a problem.

I've never tried Triple B, but may still, since we're around the El Monte area a lot. Weird they have so many good reviews followed by bad ones.

The So. Cal place I know for sporting clays was Oak Tree. Do not recall an extensive test to be taken to shoot there. Rented a 20 ga. Rem 870. A Oak Tree attendant had to drive us up to the range. We had to call when we were done to pick us up. Regardless it was a lot of fun.

When I'm in the No. Cal area, Coyote Clay's is the most enjoyable.

That sucks, but my wife and I used groupon @ triple B's and had a blast. Good service. No attitude. Our instructor was awesome. I cannot remeber if we had to set up an appointment but if we did my wife handled it since it was a surprise.

Some of the people that work in the office do have an attitude. I've had some run-ins with them myself. I think they know they are one of the few clays ranges in LA and that people will still come back even if they do not have good customer service.

I would have walked out and scheduled an instructor. then when it was over take a big dump on the managers face.

Shooter safety with the guns. Don't have to take the test if you go with the instructors since safety is covered.

I took the Calguns instruction last week at Triple B. Had a blast and highly recommend it. Total cost was less than $100 with 2 boxes of shells left over. If you need a gun you can borrow it from the instructors.

The young ladies get swamped at times and have a bit of "I've heard these questions too many times and don't feel like answering anymore attitude." When I stepped up I stammered "CalGuns" and she slowly figured out what I needed!

That's ok, it was well worth it.... Now when you meet Mr Zeigler, that's a whole nuther thread !

Contact groupon for not honouring the deal. Groupon will take care of it. Make sure your complaint has the names of the people that assisted you.
