Every gun I own gets used... Some more than others. Hell, the priciest one yet is quickly gaining on it's predecessor in round count. If I had to guess, newest is at a few hundred, one prior is at several hundred if not a thousand plus... I don't own too many; yet I am not done purchasing.

As for round count. I don't partake. If I ever did sell anything, I would be honest with anyone interested in buying, and say something like "I didn't buy this here beauty to have it sit in my safe and collect dust, it was used whenever I had the time- by myself, by my ol' lady, by my shootin buddies, by my dog, etc"

personally i have more never fired guns than i do fired. i think the oldest new in box pistols i have were first sold in 1976. i am not a shooter i am a gun lover. one day if i decide to sell i know for sure that nib brings more money than fired any amount.

All the guns i use to own were shot very often. Exception to that was my Sig Sp2022 which i bought for work only. I've been selling my wares to supplament my new residence in free America purchases.

I'm sort of anal about record keeping and inventory as much in the home as I was in business. It came in handy the two times we were burgled in the 80's for insurance purposes.

The same applies to my firearms and ammo, including round count on original purchases, and "my" round count on hand-me-downs.

Same here. I have excel spreadsheets on some of my firearms and an inventory list of ammo in stock. It's not so much about round count (although its helpful info IMO), but it helps me document when the last time I went to the range with a particular firearm, the types of ammo shot, types of ammo it "prefers", types of malfunction (if any) with a specific ammo, etc.

Some might find it useless or unnecessary, but it adds a layer of "fun" for me. This is a hobby for me of course and the extra info is helpful.

Back on topic - I 100% agree that a lot of purchases are on impulse and "hype".

I'm sure my memory won't be so great someday; a spreadsheet sounds like a good idea. However right now I typically remember what rounds my rifles tend to not like and either give away/sell remaining rounds or save for other guns.

I have a DPMS SASS that I bought, sighted in, and use just for hog hunting; it has probably between 75 and 100 rounds through it. I keep all my brass and haven't reloaded any yet, and I have four boxes and a few orphans of empties. I love the rifle and it shoots great. When I take it out, I put one or two rounds downrange to confirm zero, then maybe two or three rounds on the hunt (if I'm lucky!).

Everything else I have will definitely be worn out by the time my son inherits them, though.

It seems as tho here no one shoots their guns lol. Almost every gun in the marketplace is either NIB or less than 300 rounds. Why do people go through the hassle of buying and 10 day wait just for it to sit in a box and never shoot?

I used to shoot over 10,000 rounds per year with only 3 guns.
Recently its been about 1,500 per year

Quality guns last a lifetime pr twp if well maintained.

Some of it is Wow I really don't like this gun

Mine was I really don't like this platform.

I bought the Shield and just struggled with the trigger. So I bought M&P 9, and figured I would get some more trigger time with a larger S&W.

Then the 2nd panic hit and 9mm ammo was getting expensive so I bought the M&P22 Pistol so I could dig into my stash of 22LR.

Through all this I realized, I really don't like any of these triggers. By the time I was done, I had wasted $1200. I ended up selling all of them and told myself not to invest into a platform that I don't even like.

I was a little concerned when I was considering a high round count SP-01 in the marketplace. It took awhile to connect with the seller, but I'm glad I waited. Turned out the seller maintained it, did all the custom upgrades & the guys at my shop were drooling over it.

I started out shooting everything, but as my collection has grown I''m a little sad to say there are handguns I've had for months that haven't been to the range yet.
