It's that time of the year again. Well, realistically, that time of every 3 years again. I am buying bulk ammo. It's the usual suspects--9mm, 45, 556, 30-30, 22.

Probably getting 500 rds/caliber and more of the 9 and 22.

What are the best sites these days for deals and good service?

2 weeks ago you could have bought stuff -$20 to -$30 off the prices listed on most online sites...
For 22lr, there's a post for Federal value packs (325) for 19.99 at Cabela's, limit 5, with free shipping. Good deal normally, very good deal rightnow considering all the hikes in ammo. Great deal if you got a Cabela's $100 gift card for $85- $82.

SGAmmo.com and TargetSportsUSA.com are my go-to sites, followed by Cabela's and Gander Mountain. I echo the comment to add "0" as it is time to do that now. Good luck!

I had good luck with LAX Ammo. Their shipping was quick, and the quality is good. They offer remanufactured ammo as well as factory new. I had an issue with a product being out of stock, and they quickly corrected the issue and sent me a fancy metal ammo box to make up for their mistake and delay. Good stuff.

Prices are slightly higher right now, but will likely return to normal in a few weeks.

There are several fair deals at cabelas and brownells right now with their free shipping, if you really want to place a large order that may help.

Otherwise wait a few weeks, possibly even early next year, to see acceptable ammo prices.
Of course the smartest thing is to do the math and compare past/current prices to compare deals, then buy when you're happy with the price. Sign up for newsletters so you can easily compare past/current prices.

If you're going to buy only 500 rounds or so of a caliber, maybe the gun shows will be a better bet. You won't have to pay for shipping.

i still think it's cheaper online because you still have to factor in parking (if not free) and entrance fee.

You're about a month late for the lowest prices. Although prices are still reasonably good, they seem to have inched up a little recently.

Buy 500 of each caliber now... Another 500 every 3 months until 2018.. Dollar cost average helps you now.. 1k of each cal in reserve is your long term MIn. goal... 22cal 5k min.. Cheers...
