Hell no, but I'm registering what I got so I'm in before the ban. I'll continue to buy featureless items but I see it as a rapidly closing window of time.Comment

I think mounting it is a problem.
The AR Mag locks and similar new compliant devices cannot be uninstalled, thats part of the compliance.
How is this device going to be made anywhere near universal and still not be easily removed? I sure as hell don't want my rail to be part of some kind of compliance apparatus.
As such, how is it any better than the other devices that replace the mag button, and are a fraction the size of your design? If you have a swinging+openable action, the device has already been designed, IMO.
Your concept seems like an early, early, POC to those, not an evolution.Comment

The new mag locks and BB go way above and beyond the requirements of the law.
It only must not be removable without disassembly of the action.
My idea- make it like an original mag release, but looking like a sideways 'U' from the front, so it looks like a BB 2.0 or ARML.
This would install just like a standard mag release (press down, spin on the mag catch), with the exception that one of the 'U' arms is blocked by the upper receiver until you pivot it open.
Beauty of this is, out of stae you can uninstall it without tools. But when installed here, 100% compliance.
Any takers to machine and produce? I don't even want any royalties, just send me 3 or 4.

I've been thinking for awhile that the best thing to do for a fixed mag AR (or whatever) would be version of the Franklin DFM (fixed mag with which you can have a normal mag release button and whatnot, but the mag has to be installed/removed through the top with the action open) that has a feed gate in the rear of the mag and a lever (to hold the follower down) to facilitate reloading the mag without removing it. The mag probably would need to be single-stack with a side window (for the lever to come up with the follower) to prevent stoppages and potential user error while loading. I call this product the Stupid CA Mag. If you make it, just sent me a few free of charge and we'll call it even.
edit: The nice thing about this is: (A) When you go out of state, you just swing open the upper, remove the Stupid CA Mag, and start using regular mags immediately. (B) You don't have to open the damn thing to reload when in CA.Last edited by essjay; 10-19-2016, 11:59 PM.Comment

Your post gives me a different idea: a device that attaches to the rail on the upper (I suppose using fasteners that're nearly impossible to remove) and goes down to cover the mag release button. That would be far closer to universal for ARs. Same concept as my first post, just mounted in a different place.Originally posted by CSACANNONEERA real live woman is more expensive than a fleshlight. Seems like a decent idea Junkie. It needs to be something that can be retrofitted without too much gunsmithing or it'll be difficult to get out-of-state vendors to install them. I like the way you're thinking though!sigpicComment

I realized that something that'd mount to the top rail would still have to be fairly large since it has to get around the ejection port, and the deflector is in the way if going around the back. Maybe there's enough room between the deflector and forward assist, but then it'd probably interfere with mounting a rear sight...Originally posted by CSACANNONEERA real live woman is more expensive than a fleshlight. I imagine something that mounts on the top rail, fits right over the deflector wedge and goes all the way down. That would be the smallest size and a nearly universal AR fit. The actual top rail mounting would be adjustable to accomodate different optics mounts. Or if it can be made to mount securely just over the deflector wedge then that would be even better.---------------------
