Avid Arms was formed a few years ago by a bunch of guys who got sick of the nonsense at NYFirearms. It's a pretty laid back and friendly group of guys.

Is that where shenaniguns went to? It disappeared on me, and I was left in the dark.

Apparently, Verticalscope is owned by the Toronto Star -- which is antigun. Of course, it's also a Canadian newspaper, so culturally, they're not going to be pro-2A.

That said, they have been gobbling up a lot of outdoor forums. Sounds like business, not some devious strategy.

But Hildebeast and "DaBurn" said that business IS a devious strategy.

I have no idea how vertical scope remains in business. As soon as they buy a forum all the core members leave and it drops dead. They bought DucatiMonster.Com and it was a lifeless husk in days, they bought CustomFighters.Com and the place was a dead zone in a couple of weeks once they broke their promise to honor lifetime VIP many of us has purchased from the original forum creator and started editing our posts to delete mentions of products that weren't paid sponsors of the site.

So I went and registered at this forum and browsed around. I found the pre-requisite thread about carrying a gun in your car: http://nygunforum.com/threads/truck-car-gun.822/

Now here on CalGuns, any such thread ends up as a debate as to what exactly the PC mean, and any post after #3 in thread is likely to cite the relevant PC. These folks have gone a page and a half with only once citation of a PC, and it doesn't seem particularly relevant unless it's hunting season. A simple Google search on Google found the NY PC, some of which pertains to their discussion, yet it has apparently occurred to no one in that thread to look at their own PC and cite what the law says.

My takeaway from this is pretty simple: While we all here at CG argue a lot, we are at least intelligent enough to educate each other and share the actual laws. We also have the intellectual rigor to move past "I heard" or "I was told" for the most part. We may be sheep in this state, but at least we are well educated sheep.

Not necessarily true. If you don't renew a domain name, the name came be bought by someone else. I have several who had dot-coms that have since been swooped up and essentially held for ransom (ie: I just checked one - what was a free community website done by one individual that was last updated about a decade ago is now up for sale for $1,995).

Yep. They are gobbling up a lot of Shooting/Hunting/Outdoor forums. I've been approached by them a few times, but won't sell to them.

I really wish some of those board owners would have put it out there to others in our community, so we could have a chance to make a bid/offer.
