It's called apathy.

When pressed to answer whether it was ignorance or just apathy, most CA firearms owners would probably say "I don't know, and I don't care"....

This was not an NRA or Calguns thing. This was supposed to be a grassroots movement by the people. It's primarily the people responsibility to fight for our rights. Too many people just kicking back on their couches doing nothing and shifting the responsibility and blame to gun organizations simply because they threw a few dollars their way. That's the real problem

No the real problem is that a lot of the people we need did not know.
Lots of CA gun owners are not on socialist media or monitor legislation.
That's where the money comes in, getting people to go out, stumping house to house, raising awareness gathering signatures.

But these people, without the social media, do go in to gun stores, right? I've visited numerous gun stores in the last few months and I always saw multiple signs in various locations throughout the establishments explaining gunmageddon. There is NO excuse, unless we're now saying that in addition to not subscribing to social media, California gun owners are also illiterate or blind as well. And I won't ever forget the obvious gun owners that walked away from my table full of petitions on the shifts that I volunteered for. There is NO excuse for that at all...

No, the real problem was that people knew - they just couldn't be bothered to get up off their lazy duffs, drive to their LGS and sign. Even at our MC meeting, people wanted us to bring the petitions to them so they could sign.

No wonder California treats gun owners badly. If we won't stand up for ourselves, why should Newsom and Deleon respect us at all?

Do you go to the gun store every month? I don't. I go when I need something which frankly can be years between visits. If I wasn't here on calguns I would have had no idea this was all happening.
You know how we got most of our signatures? Setting up on the side of major intersections in the country with big signs on my dads truck. Of the 500-ish people who signed ours almost none of them knew what was going on.
You assume that because we had signs at gun stores and it was on the internet that everyone knew, but that's BS. Most people don't eat, sleep, and live guns like we do here, they have a shotgun or a deer rifle, take having it for granted, and shoot ever couple of years.
That's why creating a database is vital. That's why door to door gathering, public advertising and money are important. That's why it was crucial to get a mailer to every NRA member in CA. Instead they sent email ads that mostly go directly to spam folders or are deleted by people tired of the constant money begging of the NRA.
We got to get out and build an organization, we can't count on people knowing what's going on we've got to shove it in their face and wake them up!

When it comes to California's gun laws, nothing, and I mean nothing surprises me anymore.

You'd be surprised how many people had no idea these laws were in much less we were gathering signatures to defeat them.

My rough guess is AT LEAST half of the people I asked to sign had NO IDEA about these new laws and our petitions. sad face.

If people didn't know its because they make no effort to know. Everyone knows how restrictive and anti-gun CA is. Every gun owner should be following all gun legislation and all efforts to resist it.

Do did you read the thread? I personally drove 20 people to turners and got them to sign, what did you do? Eff off? Sure bud. I spent 50k on firearms last year rookie. Step your game up.

And the NRA didn't help at all. I know the owners of Turners and multiple store managers, the owners of the stockade in Westminster as well. Every single employee and owners said they haven't heard a peep from the NRA. One manager called the local branch and they told him "we focus on national firearm issues". Sounds about right doesn't it. God forbid I expect the largest gun organization in the world to help one of its states being raped.
