MPro7 is probably not greased lighting, as it does not oxidize and corrode aluminum like greased lightning does if it is not rinsed right off.

I'm thinking about doing a test with a stripped 80% to see. I think it is a matter of the concentration too, but the make up could be different.

I think Battlefield Vegas uses Simple Green in their washers. Which tells me that you could use it instead. There is also a more powerful version of Simple Green I think.

Meh i guess its just one of the negatives of being biodegradeable, i have heard some people who claim they been using the same bottle for over 5 years and it works just fine, im just not willing to gamble on an $80 bottle of solvent.

The change in appearance and thickness are from two things:

1. Evaporation: M-Pro7 Gun Cleaner over time does lose some solvents and surfactants to evaporation. Exposure to the air can also lower the pH.

2. Carbon: MPro7 Gun Cleaner is an alkali or base solution. Carbon fouling is acidic in nature. Over time, even with filtering, the carbon lowers the pH value of the gun cleaner. Once the pH falls below 8, the cleaner needs to be replaced.

I believe they are assuming it is being used in a parts washer or ultra-sonic cleaner where it would be open to the air. I mean what kind of crazy guy (me) would buy a whole gallon of cleaner if he didn't have an ultrasonic cleaner, right? LOL

2. This is a good indication that they are talking about a parts cleaner or ultra-sonic where the cleaner is recycled over and over. And not a guy who just sprays it on his parts and does not reuse it.

Besides its $60 not $80.

I doubt there is much problem keeping it longer than two years in a jug.

Hmm all i see it listed for is $69 on multiple sites. Though slick guns does show it was on sale for $54 on amazon before. Im sure it would be fine, i just dont use enough to justify the risk as i prefer Ballistol and only use m-pro 7 in places i dont want lube and even then i usually just use alcohol these days.

interesting. although i never used grease, i use to always give a quick wipe, with a rag lightly saturated with hoppes oil, to every part that has metal to metal contact, once my gun was clean already.

If you use a good grease, like the Fiske Brothers Lubriplate, Superlube, or Lucas Outdoor Gun Grease, on the slide rails it will decrease wear and improve function. How much you need to use is something learned through experience and based on gun type. There are some other areas I use gun grease as well, like some trigger bows, pins, etc.

I'd avoid Gun Scrubber, only cleaner I've been given strict directions NOT to use, from the manufacturer.

thanks , I have used simple green for cleaning smoke poles ... it worked well , just didn't see the point most of the time though.

Yep, I like Ballistol a lot. Use it on all my guns, including wood stocks. Safe and sane!

Today's Hoppe's 9 has a slightly different scent from what I remember from decades ago. I think the original formula has been changed somewhat probably to satisfy the EPA or similar agency.

Of course it could be me...old age does have a way of affecting one's sense of smell.

Yeah ballistol is great for wood. Which reminds me i had a very negative experience with m-pro7 when cleaning up an old rifle, it took the gloss finish right off the stock where it contacted the metal reciever i was cleaning. After that i switched to ballistol exclusively whenever cleaning a firearm with wood, obviously ymmv. Also i think ballistol smells great... but im pretty sure im the only one.
