    Best Gun Cleaners

I have been using Hoppe's #9 and Birchwood Casey's GunScrubber for a while now and wanted to know what other CalGunner's use, that might be better?

CLP and rem oil wipes for cleaning, with help from q-tips and patches. Hoppes #9 for adding lubrication.

As a cleaner for getting all the crud out? Brakekleen. Same crap as gunscrubber for 1/3 the price. I'd say get the green can which is CFC free since chlorine can be harmful to the finish, and polymer frames, but in CA both the red and green cans are CFC free since CFC's are illegal in consumer products sold in CA. That being said, I'll usually use breakfree CLP to loosen up the carbon deposits first, then blast everything clean with the breakfree, then lube and wipe down the gun.

Wipe-out, Butches Bore Shine, Tetra-Gun, Sweets 7.62, Barnes CR-10, Blue Wonder, Montana products, Shooters choice, Patch-Out are all better than #9.

Brake clean is the same stuff as gun scrubber but much cheaper.

Use a good oil and that would not be Rem-Oil as it did about the worse in tests against other oils. Use a good grease where called for--rig, shooter choice, white grease or many others.

I use wipe-out then sometimes follow with one of the above for a super clean barrel. Like when I want to use copper or copper jacketed bullets after shooting regular jacketed bullet. One of the tricks for not getting bad fouling and poorer accuracy with Barnes bullets.

You can clean with #9(so old and outdated) all you want. Then try one of the above on your cleaned barrel and you will be surprised just how much more you get out of the barrel.

Never use a 3-piece Alum cleaning rod. The coated rods(Like Dewey) or SS rods(like Pro-Shot) are great. Some like the Carbon Fiber rods like Midway sells. I have not used the carbon fiber rods myself.

One reason I really like Wipe-Out is that there is less work and fewer passes with the cleaning rod down the bore. The less passes the better on the bore. I buy it by the case from Graf & Sons and it is still one of the best(and priced better than some others) foaming bore cleaners. Something I learned real quick when I got my 1st 50BMG rifles from the 50cal shooters clan. Now use it for all rifles/pistols and if I get back shooting shotguns probably on them as well.

A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

I used to use Hoppes 9 but the smell lingered for a few hours.

Now i use MPRO 7. It works well and no more smell.

Brakekleen when needed on a really dirty gun and in a hurry.
CLP wipe after, CLP to clean bore if no copper fouling ( I use CFE powders a lot, so I rarely have copper buildup)
Barnes CL-10 copper fouling remover- FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS OR RUIN YOUR BARREL

In the "field" I use MPro7 cleaner because it fits in the bag and it works OK. I have had to use it at a match a couple times when I got dirty ammo or the dust/mud/crap levels were high.

I also use an ultrasonic cleaner with Lucas Outdoor cleaner when a gun or assembly needs completely stripped and cleaned.

I like Lucas Outdoor gun oil and gun grease but also use Superlube, Prolix gun cleaner and lube, and a few other things. Fiske Brother Lubriplate 1200 High Pressure Grease is just about the best grease on the planet, when you can find it buy it.

I agree and use the same products listed below by Mayor McRifle. However, I inherited a lifetime supply of Hoppes #9, so I use it for general gun cleaning. I also like to flush out my firearms with any cheap brake cleaner that I can find.

Would have never guessed using Brakekleen as an overall gun cleaner ; except on polymer/plastic parts.

Been using it for the last 10-15 years on all my guns, works great. You can get 3 or 4 cans for what a single can of gun-scrubber costs, especially if you get it at Wally World.
