    "No PPT's **********"

I did not think the DOJ allowed Gunshops to create their own rules for doing PPT's. The way I read it, they were required to do PPT's during normal business hours.

A couple years back, I meet a guy half way. The gunshop in the middle was The Gun Room in Elk Grove. I was selling a AR. The guy behind the counter said, "Oh, we don't do PPT's for ARs. I had driven 60 miles and he had driven about the same. It was in the evening and all other gunshops were closed. To say I was pissed, would be a huge understatement. I did call the DOJ and made a complaint. Not sure anything happened to them.

For me, I will buy and give business to the stores who like their customers and don't lay a bunch of rules upon them just to make things easier for themselves.
If you are in Modesto then just go to Alquist in Turlock. Probably the best store in the central valley. They have 2 locations now in Turlock and have plenty of employees to accomodate a PPT. They dont mind it. They understand that it may lead to other business. If I still lived in the valley it would be my go to store.

So it looks like we are going to go to Outdoor World in Capitola (thanks chappedhide for the info). They are open 7 days a week, have no policies about additional charges or special times for PPT and only charge the $35 fee.

You're welcome. Head down to the end of 41st when you're done and check out the surf at the Hook. Stop at the Penny Ice Creamery on the way.

              Just a heads up:

As of 5/17, Outdoor World in Capitola now charges a $95 fee for FFL services.

Any time a shop will not perform in a PPT inside of normal business hours or goes outside the rules regarding an FFL, I just drop a dime to the DOJ. Doing a PPT is part of the responsibility of having an FFL.

Just did a PPT there today. My experience was that they are very rough around the edges, but once they warm up to you they'll crack "inappropriate" jokes and get you going...as quickly as their 70 year old bodies can. I would say it was more positive than negative, although I can see why people might not like them.

That being said, I have a few good ones in mind for people who are reading this thread but are in Southern California:

                  1) Riflegear in OC being a sponsor on calguns, they must have people reading these threads. When I called in and asked for the best time (out of politeness), the customer service rep told me "oh anytime we are open. but try to be here before closing time so everyone can go home on time." Very few stores do PPT without restrictions nowadays.

                  2) Alamo Pawn in West Covina. This is how PPTs should be done. Quick, efficient, and staff is generally helpful about the gun, even though you didn't buy it from them.

                  3) Turner's in Chino Hills. How did they end up here? Well, the staff I've dealt with have been fine. Really luck of the draw since each employee is different.

                  4) Gun Effects in Hacienda Heights - probably the best place to do PPT in the 626 area. Staff is courteous and professional.

                  5) Titan Sporting Group in Irvine- small shop but works quickly.

I have a few more but I can't remember off the top of my head.

Someone already mentioned lazo and lokeys, I haven't done business with them but haven't heard anything bad from those that have
Santa Cruz armory if they are back in business, they had to relocate for flooding and as a result I think had to temporarily suspend their ffl due to moving, if certainly call them before heading their way, been to them a few times and they've always treated me right. Not sure how friendly hunters supply is these days, in monterey, on Fremont, almost seaside. Since you are right there at least walk in and see what you think

Im assuming that is for a transfer and not a PPT. Shops can charge whatever they want on a transfer. A PPT is set by the state at $35 and thats what they charged me last year.
