Carrying on a 2 week road trip...

Going on a 2 week road trip with my lady and my dog. Will be visiting national parks and camping most of the way. Visiting several states; Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona. Bringing my glock.

I have not researched carry laws in other states, but I assume they are less strict than CA. But at the same time I don't want to be naive and get myself into trouble. From what I have read about national parks is you can have a firearm, but can not discharge it. I am having trouble finding info about laws in other states.

While on the road, I plan on keeping it locked in a pelican case, under the rear bench seat of the truck. At the campsites, it will be holstered. While hiking, probably leave it in the truck and we will both carry bear spray. I feel if I limit it to these purposes I should be ok.

You can carry in national parks but not into buildings with federal employees. I can't comment about discharge of a firearm though.

Camping in MT/WY National Parks in Oct? Bring long sleeves and decent sleeping bag. As far as firearms, ID MT WY UT will feel like a foreign country to you. I'D and WY are Constitutional Carry and MT is only restricted w/o permit in incorporated areas which leaves 95% available including your vehicle in all places. Seriously...bring warm clothes and prepare for sub-freezing temps and possibility of snow.

Why would you not carry on your person where legal? AZ as but one example is a constitutional carry state. You need to carefully read all laws pertaining to carry in all these states. As an example permitless carry is legal in AZ but not in a bar or restaurant that serves alcohol.

Unloaded in a locked container is the almost foolproof method nationwide.
However even that isn't enough in some areas, like NYC, New Jersey, Wash DC......etc. having one bullet is a Felony in some places...

I requested a CCW application, via email, on 9/18/16. Today, I received a return email stating that my application package was being mailed out.

As noted above, get an Arizona CCW, which is very easy to do. While it will not cover you in all States, it does cover the majority (37). The Arizona CCW is accepted in all of the States you mentioned. Check out the attached link for detailed information.

If your planning this trip in a few weeks you are probably starting the permit process to late to receive a CCW from anywhere before your trip.

Assuming you have completed a CCW course and have the paperwork and fingerprint card you are looking at somewhere between 30 and 60 days for processing.

But as others have stated many of the states you mentioned allow carry without any permits required.

Look up the state laws and proceed.

That app is a great idea! I had never thought about looking into an app for that. Thank you.

I have zero plans or intent to 'go shooting' anywhere on the trip and I really do not want to be in the position where I need to shoot anything. From what I have been reading, bear spray is more effective anyway. The last thing I want to do is piss off an 800 lb grizz with some pea shooter, then have it really come after us. But for around the campsite and out in the boonies with no cell reception, the glock will be for protection from the 2 legged creatures.

Im going to fill out the AZ permit tonight, i was not aware you could do such a thing online.

And yes, we are aware of the weather. For the past week or so it has been getting into the 40's at night, which is not too bad. Besides, I have a camper shell on the Tundra and we are going to camp in the truck most of the time. Gonna break out the tent when we get further south into Utah and Arizona.

Somebody mentioned Idaho is constitutional carry, which is correct, but for residents only.

With or without a permit, don't carry in any building in a National Park. It's a whole different can of problems.

if you have a Ca, arazona, nevada, oregon, utah. permits (all of them) you are good to go in about 90% of the western states.

for the most part.
KEEP out of "bars", any federal areas, most of there buildings, ALL posted federal areas, secure parts of airports (couple airports just on the property is a vacation with club fed).
of course state, county, city, etc. areas can get you time in there state prison.

not sure? you must check out the rules for ALL of the.

privet parks, stores, "other areas", at min a trespassing charge. max time in county or state lock-up.

county: city, parks.

state: parks, forests.

federal: parks, forests,

National: parks, forests.

play areas, including blm land.

hwy laws, state, county, city, community. and school zones.(aka: if you have a arazona permit, you can not carry in a nevada school zone, but if you have a nevada carry permit it is ok).



avoid colorado.

sad so many different laws in so many books, and some are held hard some are just not even looked at. then how does the office feel "today"?

WY is Constitutional Carry only for residents.

Always check local laws on that state's web site immediately prior to departure. Laws can and do change quickly and often.
The smartphone apps are good, but there are occasional errors.

For the most part, if you do not have at least a CA permit, you are limited to open carry (generally loaded) in all but a few states.
Inside the national parks, they must follow state law with respect to licensed concealed carry, BUT, guns are ALWAYS prohibited in Federal buildings occupied by Federal employees, as well as any military installation.
