If you really want a liner just use a zip lock bag and throw a few silica packets in there with the ammo. The silica packets will do more then that overpriced zip lock bag.

        Not necessary but...

... I like 'em. Keep from wearing the inside of the can, paint dust, whatever. Maybe use two bags so you don't have to pull out the whole lot? I generally put my loose reloads into a plastic leftover box & then into the can.

Interesting. But I may try to turkey bags. I'm getting 2k per ammo can pouring the ammo in there and using wrapping paper as a liner. I know industrial companies use paper as anti corrosion protection.

if you are using cardboard or paper, be mindful of the relative humidity and temperature when packing, compared to the temperature it will be at in storage. On a really hot/humid day cardboard can soak up a lot of moisture from the air, which will reappear as the contents of the can cool down.

I always thought vapor corrosion inhibitor was a bunch of hokum. Keep it dry and seal it up = good to go.

I ended up just putting a 100 rounds in each zip lock, squeezing the air out and laying them in the can.

A GI ammo can is plenty good. If liners were needed, the DoD would have been using them.

The liners are NFG if they're not tactical ammo can liners.

Any Vietnam vets around here? Were you guys using liners in Vietnam?

If you weren't, you sure as hell don't need them in California.

^This. Or you could go the extra mile and use Zip Lock freezer bags.

                            I'm a Vet, not a Vietnam vet.

GI ammo cans have a black rubber seal on the inside cover, that is what helps to keep the ammo cans waterproof. GI ammo cans, when closed, are supposed to stay water proof in the surf for up to 3 weeks or so.

Often times when someone has their sheet rusting inside a GI ammo can, they usually put in in wet or left the cover open. Either way, make no mistake about serviceable GI ammo cans and civilian chi-naw Costco cheap stuff.

My Costco cans are water tight and have fresh gaskets. I tested mine in the bath tub and got not a single air bubble.
