    M1A or AR10

    Debating and thinking.
    $1800.00 Budget for .308
Im tossed between a M1A Standard or Scout Socom or AR10 Platform.
Ive shot both a couple times but No Real experience with either rifle in .308.
I own several ARs in 5.56 AK Variants in 54 and 39 and a Number of other Weapons in 7 mag and 30.06 270 as far as Rifle Rounds
With time ticking and wanting one or the other I can Only do One as I have other Wants before the END here in Commifornia.
Any Pros vs Cons on Either I should Consider before i Pull the Trigger ?

Why is time ticking? M1A isn't on the chopping block. For the AR10, 2017-compliant bullet buttons are here and featureless is still available.

Personally I think the AR10 is light years ahead. Easier to accurize, easier to mount a scope, readily changeable uppers means ready changeable barrel lengths and calibers, ie 308, 6.5CM, 243, 260, 338Fed, buy whatever trigger you want, mags are everywhere, pick whatever brake you want, the list goes on.

There are plenty of featureless M1A options out there that will be available after the new year. But I prefer the classic M1A in .308 semi auto than AR10 purely on fun/aesthetic appeal.

However, as far as functional weapons go AR10 blows the M1A out of the water.

To each his own, but I also prefer the AR-10 platform way over the M1A, Josh pretty much said why.

Such as Mini 14s and M1As but I maybe Mistaken.
I need to research that to be if it's truth.

That one got stopped. That's why all the talk of converting to featureless is multiple threads of discussion.

              AR-10 now (before 1/1/2017) and M1A later.

As everyone said, you can get a M1A later.

With $1800 you can build a better AR10 than you can buy and start out with the gun you truly want part wise. Any experience building?

Keep in mind that with building...
Unlike the AR15 platform, there is no standardization with the AR308 platform.
Major manufacturers tend to have their own proprietary parts that are not compatible with other manufacturers' parts (this includes magazines).

So, when contemplating a AR308 pattern build, first choose which manufacturers platform you want to copy and acquire parts compatible with that platform.

The two most common platform patterns...
                  A. Armalite AR10
                  B. KAC SR25 /DPMS LR308

I have a M1a Socom it's a decent firearm . Took alot to get mine to run right and reliably Mounting optics is a pain .Even they do the sights do get mounted its never really right . I don't own a Ar 10 because of the proparittary parts issues with manufacturers .

If you go the M1A route don't get the Socom. Instead, get one with a full barrel (22") because it is the full gun. What I mean is, get a rifle that is the full battle rifle. It's a beautiful rifle. The 18" is pretty sweet too and the 16" is a bit short for me but the 22" is just really nice.

But as others have said, you aren't up against the clock with the M1A but you're running out of time with an AR10.

Yeah Ive built several ARs in 5.56 the Problem Ive come across is finding a Stripped AR 10 Lower.
I would have to purchase one online a have it transferred in to my ffl so looking at between 380.00 to 550 just for the lower.
So i thought just to do an outright purchase of a complete, been looking and all thats left is 16" barreled rifles in AR platform. Thats what gave me the thought of just getting a nice Springfield.

M1A loaded or national match without scope or AR10 with scope. About an even toss up.

Meh, I had an AR-10. I enjoyed shooting my M1A much more. The AR-10 probably punched marginally smaller groups but I hate shooting groups, it's boring. If I wanted to shoot groups I'd just buy a bolt gun for half the price and 75% of the weight.
