I guess there are SOME people who could still counter attack right after having a finger broken like that. I sure couldn't!

So true, but its not that "vast majority of the time" that is so vexing. If you are up against one of those rare individuals who is going to shoot you regardless of your compliance then plan on being dead for a long, long time.

            break the grip
. I doubt anyone can maintain a grip under recoil. The
mugger then regains control of the gun & now he's definitely going to
shoot you. It's a tough call.
Actually what has happened in the real world is the gun will be placed out of battery because the grip on the slide will pull the slide slightly bak and it will be unable to fire. This has happened numerous times already.

Ok, I am just theorizing here, but if the gun is already cocked then pulling the trigger would discharge the firearm causing the slide to recoil. If your grabbing onto the slide and barrel and he pulls the trigger, aren't you going to be in pain??

how much blow back do you believe is in the bullet to rack the slide? why is it if you shoot and "thumb" the slide, the slide will sometimes "short stroke?"

The idea is that you have removed yourself from the line of fire and simultaneously advanced forward with a straight punch to the head/neck. At the same time your exerting pressure/twisting/bending the hand/wrist so the assailant releases their grip. It works. You're defending against the weapon's immediate threat and counterattacking at the same time. Also, you would remove/release the weapon from their grip and disengage, even if you have to shoot them as you retreat. It takes practice. If the assailant is out of reach, than that combative scenario wouldn't be the correct response. You would respond with another scenario...

Also, I agree with not trusting that the attacker will do right. Handing over the loot and hoping not to get hurt is no guarantee with today's criminals. I read way too many stories about people getting killed after they hand over the loot.

If they didn't want to hurt you, they wouldn't be pointing guns at you.

My teacher drills disarms with me constantly, because I train with guns. You have to pick one, maybe two techniques, and drill them over and over again.

I still would never want to have to do that for real. The thing about any martial art though, if you do it right, you will have acted and defended before your brain really figures out what is going on. If you have to think, you are already behind.

I am not a martial arts expert, just a student, so don't go getting killed on my account... Get professional training.

                      Regards,

You'd be surprised what you might do with your life entirely dependent upon your actions.

You need to be 1000 times faster and not being afraid to die if it doesn't work out in your favor. But doing exactly what this clown shows will git you killed.
