Purchased a pistol at Turners and just realized they did not have me do the SHD at the time of DROS. I will definitely mention it at the time of pick-up.

My question is, can this cause CA DOJ to delay the process?

No. It won't delay the DROS. When I did a PPT and turners I did the SHD at pick up.

Good to know. I remember the previous gun purchase at Turners, they had me do the SHD right after DROS, and their website also says it must be done at the time of DROS.

I did a PPT for a handgun at Fowlers Gun Room in Orange yesterday and the SHD wasn't done at time of DROS either. I'm sure it will be handled at time of pick up.

It makes sense to do it at time of pick up when you are actually taking possession of the weapon anyway.

Under CA laws...

The safe handling demonstration is done before the firearm is released. [PC 26850(a) & 26860(a)]
After the safe handling demonstration is done, an affidavit must be completed to attest that the safe handling demonstration was completed. [PC 26850(d) & 26860(c)]

Persons that are exempt from needing a HSC/FSC are also exempt from needing to do a safe handling demonstration. [PC 26850(h) & 26860(g)]

Failure to complete or not performing a safe handling demonstration means the CA FFL dealer can not legally release the firearm to the transferee and if the CA FFL dealer does release the firearm, then it is grounds to have the CA FFL dealer's license revoked. [PC 26800]

That is the benefit my wife likes best about having her CCW. She hated having to show some pretentious kid at Turners she knew safe handling and could indeed rack the slide. Now she is tickled pink to tell the kid she is exempt.

I haven't done it many , many times. I had to do it only once . The last time, the guy asked me "you know how that works?" I signed the form.

As other have said, you'll have to do it at pickup (probably).
It was worth getting my CCW just to never have to worry about second form of residency or SHD ever again.
