first load up the metal gi issue
(not the cheap china made cans or the junk plastic)
ammo can full. set in the sun for a SHORT time. you only want to warm things up not get them hot.
place in some desiccant packs.
close the lids.
then place in a cool dry place protected from heat and water.
as the cans cool off it makes a vacuum in there. and the desiccant absorbs the O2 in the can.
good for decades.

Storing My Bulk Ammo???
Found these at Home Depot.

Not made in China, made in Israel. Little bit of a shocker to me. Decided I'd pick up a couple to try out. One loaded out with 223/556 fit ~1500rds. Other fit some 22LR I had on hand and range gear/magazines. The top and bottom have what appears to be an o-ring seal as seen in above picture. Lockable at each latch. 6 bins and dividers in above picture can be removed.
They come in various sizes that have a system which latches one to another (all sizes compatible). These are smallest size, there is one medium and then a large. Large has wheels and telescoping handle.

IIRC cost on this one was $19.99.
In addition to the closable/sealable sizes I mentioned there is also a milk crate that can be hooked to the others.

How exactly are locking PLASTIC ammo boxes going to secure his ammo. One, they are plastic. And Two, they can simply be carried away....Store ammo for use in safe. Store bulk ammo in lockable ammo boxes. MTM makes cheap lockable plastic ammo boxes. Keepem full, about 2000 rounds of 9mm in each is 50ish pounds. Aint nobody running off with that
Cheapest is Saran wrap over factory cardboard ammo cases. Keeps em fresh With tamper detection.sigpicC'mon man, shouldn't we ban Democracks from Cal-Guns? Or at least send them to re-education camps.Comment

Yeah, there are two sizes of these job boxes. 3ft and 4ft, the 3ft could carry a fair amount of ammo and might even fit in the bottom of your closet screwed to the floor. If filled part way it would be to heavy to carry.Do you have access to the garage? Home Depot job box can store a lot and it's lockable. Otherwise I think you're looking at a lockable foot locker/trunk.
If you're not worried about your roommates, why are you so worried about locking it? And I'm not saying that's not a good idea. It is, of course. But you could buy ammo cans and store them under the bed, except ammo cans aren't usually lockable without some type of modification.sigpicC'mon man, shouldn't we ban Democracks from Cal-Guns? Ive got to go with duckman here. While loaded cartridges may "cook off" they pose no threat to firefighters. SAMMI sums it up well. Its a long vid but the take home message is unsupported rounds pose very little threat.

If you don't care how heavy each container gets and you're cheap, go to Home Depot and buy some Homer buckets and lids.
Stack them two or three high at each corner under a piece of plywood and throw a table cloth from the Dollar Store over the whole thing.
Poof! a table for your stuff and reasonably unobtrusive ammo storage.Comment

Those are about right. Too bad they have "Ammo Crate" on it, unless they're just stickers. If they're heavy AF and a burglar doesn't know what's in it they might decide it's too much trouble. If they're heavy AF and a burglar knows it's full of ammo it'll definitely be gone.https://www.amazon.com/MTM-ACR8-72-C...rds=ammo+crate

Even with wheels it ain't light, trust me. We used them in Iraq. When they're full of like 5,000+ rounds of 5.56 it still takes 2 people to move.
