DMV punched a hole in my DL

Last week I had to add a tanker endorsement to my CDL and the guy at the DMV punched a hole in my license. Yesterday I stopped by turners to "check" out the c39v2. A new shipment just came in after being on back order for 4 months. I decided to buy it. Handing over my license I saw the hole and I was hoping they wouldn't notice but the guy did and he wouldn't let me go any further with the DROS. I did put a deposit on the rifle and I'm hoping my license will get here soon.

Why did the agent punch a hole in it?

I'm thinking because it's technically not a valid drivers license since a new one will be mailed out.

Didn't they give you a temp license? The old one is voided and they give you a temp?

so you tried to purchase a firearm, with a license that you knew was invalid?

Saw this happen to the guy in front of me at Addax in San Fernando. The guy had something added to his CDL. Addax called the DOJ and they as well as the guy explained the situation. DOJ ok'd the process and they proceeded with the full paperwork and transaction

Same thing happened to me once. Bullseye in San Rafael wouldn't let me use the range even though I had the punched DL and a temp licence printout from the DMV. The pumched DL didn't even expire for a week.

Don't ever let the DMV punch a hole in your license.

                    Nope.

                    Any change regardless of expiration.

I (finally) added my M1 endorsement in May 2006. My license was not due to expire until 2009 (had renewed in Jan 2005).
They punched a hole in it, "new" one came in with the same renewal date.
They gave me a paper temporary, but like the brown change of address card, FFLs don't accept it.

That blows! First handgun I bought after moving to CO was with a voided CA DL and a paper print out temporary license from CO DMV.

Had many problems when adding to my CDL. Simple things like buying beer even they would question it.

Always get a Ca ID card when you get your license. For just such occasions.

They most likely issued you a temporary paper license (you did not indicate one way or the other). The temporary paper one is valid and in combination with the punched old photo license is valid for any purpose a California Driver's License is valid for.

Below is the Vehicle Code section which I referred to.

12511. No person shall have in his or her possession or otherwise
under his or her control more than one driver's license.
The old ID plus paper is only good for driving. It can not be used for any other purpose. The paper specifically says this.

Source: I own a bar and have taken multiple classes with CA ABC
