Moving to Arizona

I'm right behind you - Here is my take:
Unless you have a sentimental attachment to them - Sell them here and rebuy in AZ.
There are many examples of the incompetent KA state employees putting leins on vehicles for registrations they claim were due AFTER people reregistered in other states.
I have ZERO confidence or faith the serial numbers of my KA registered firearms won't be somehow impacted when I fail to re-register any "assault weapons" even AFTER I've relocated to a free state.
I can easily see a news story about some guy arrested during a traffic stop for 12 outstanding warrants in KA attached to the firearms he didn't re-register after he moved.
I'm basically only taking C&Rs and 80%s. EVERYTHING registered will be sold here.
Prescott is a nice area. I've got many big lots through the Kingman / Seligman / Ashfork / Williams / Flagstaff areas. But I prefer Williams.....

If the cost of living here was better, we would stay. Hardest thing for wife will be the 6 hour drive to see the kids. I can sell here & pay cash for a home in Arizona. Seems like a no brainer to me. Took a long time to convince the wife. We have friends who live in the areas around Prescott which will make it easier. They have been trying to get us to move there for years. The packing & thinning stuff out will start in a few months. Ugh.Comment

I have a rental property in Phoenix but would never live in that oven. Elevation is our friend! I am attached to these weapons registered here. The bolt gun has a fortune wrapped up in it, spent a lot of money getting it where I want it. The only one that concerns me is the AR. I see it as a non-issue if I have permanent residency out of state well before 2018.Comment

I did nothing when I moved. Here's why.
1. As far as I know there is no form to unregister your guns from CA.
2. If you sell your guns (or just the lower on your AR) and buy a new one when you move here, you still have to fill out a 4473. So the Feds still know you have a gun.
3. CA is not going to come to AZ to collect guns that aren't in the state. Yes the DMV thing is a PITA. Our only major fear is the Federal government coming to get guns here. Everyone one of us that's a gun owner is already on that list.Comment

I think that you could send a letter, or maybe there is some kind of form, to the PRC DOJ that you have moved and the guns are no longer in Commiefornia.
I had several issues with the DMV trying to fine me for registration on vehicles that were registered out of state. A simple letter attached to a copy of the current out of state registration stopped all that nonsense.MLC member.

1. You can unregister an AW, there's no way off the DROS though.I did nothing when I moved. Here's why.

2. Yes you fill out a 4473 but the government doesn't get a list, they don't "know" anything unless the subpeona the records of a gun store, that they don't "know" you went to in the first place... in AZ if you have a CCW then NICS doesn't even get a call when you buy. So your 4473 goes into a cardboard box on a shelf for 20 years and then gets burned or shredded... I find it very unlikely the federal government is going to go through all those boxes of paper in all the gun stores in the country when it comes time for confiscation (and most of the records will probably "disappear" as soon as they start).Comment

I would agree that Prescott is a nice area, my in-laws lived in Prescott Valley for a long time. It does get snow in the winter and the springtime temps were great. About an hour to 1 1/2 hours from the Phoenix area, if you like sports.Comment

I don't understand the question.
You have property. You move to a different state. You pack up and take your property with you. Any property, like cars, might need to be registered in accordance with your new states laws.
There is no federal or state requirement to register your firearms. Yes next year for the scary black ones, but not currently.
Move any black scary guns out of state and you don't need to register them. Even if you register it why would you need to unregister it?
As a side note, how many owners do you think will actually register their black scary guns?

Also, I think you guys have been in California so long you are forgetting: you don't have to fill out a 4473 at all unless you are buying a new gun.Yes you fill out a 4473 but the government doesn't get a list, they don't "know" anything unless the subpeona the records of a gun store, that they don't "know" you went to in the first place... in AZ if you have a CCW then NICS doesn't even get a call when you buy. I've certainly been called that more than once - I've even seen Kes get called that. I haven't seen Red-O get called that yet, which is very suspicious to me, and means he's probably a DOJ shill.Comment

I don't think this is any indication that anything remotely similar will happen with guns you take out of the state. The primary reason being that there aren't any fees associated with the registration of your guns in CA once you've taken possession.
You are being paranoid about this for absolutely no reason at all.Comment
