The P220 Carry is the same size as a P229. And after you get used to it, the size doesn't make much difference anyway.

My issuing agency only allows three handguns to be listed on their CA LTC permits and only allows changes at renewal time.

What's currently listed on my permit are:
.45ACP Glock 30
9x19mm SIG P290RS

Next year when I renew, I may change it to:
.45ACP Glock 30
9x19mm Glock 19
9x19mm Glock 43

Not too many are familiar with the glock 30 (not s or sf) very good gun. Are you running hst or gold dots?

Thinking of adding a small 5 shot revolver in 38 spc. to the permit. The more I carry, a simple reliable easy to conceal handgun becomes more desirable for day to day. A G26 is nice with 10 +1 round. A G30S is nice with same capacity along with 45 acp power in the mountains. Any platform will work. Not a bad idea to go with just Glock, or SIG, S&W, etc. Since you will need to be comfortable with the weapon's function, yet as long as you train with your carry weapon, consistent platform is not critical. (my SIG is way different than my Glock) A full size, compact, subcompact is usually the tried and true bet for counties that only allow 3 weapons. It takes time to figure out what will work for you. After a few years, you will know exactly what you what to carry along with the ammo loads. It is very much an experience "thing" and finding out what works for you. Shoot your weapons often. You may find some shoot better, some conceal better, some are better for different situations. Enjoy.

You may laugh but I only have a Glock 34 and a SW 642 1.8" .38 on my off duty card.

I learned in my youth, when I first bought a double stack para P13 for my off duty gun, then left it in a lock box bolted in the cab of my truck everywhere I went since it was too heavy. Then progressed to a Glock 23 for a long time, but couldn't carry it while playing sports with my kids as they got bigger. 642 just goes in a pocket with me everywhere.

My only other two pistols I own are for USPSA, Glock 34 & 24. I have an alien gear holster that actually hides that pistol pretty good, but I only wear it if I'm going into the hills to see family.

My CCW instructor offers monthly "continuing education" training to his students on a monthly basis and I go regularly. Hands down, the most popular gun there is the shield. FWIW

The Shield is a highly regarded CCW weapon in California. It's on the roster, single stack, and a great value-for-money. The Glock 26 comes next. It's a bit thicker but shorter, which makes it easier to conceal, but (for me) more difficult to handle.

Alternatives are for me the Ruger LCR9 and the S&W Bodyguard in the revolver department (worn OWB or with sticky holster apendix), and the HK2000SK V2 or V3 (top quality but a bit heavy), the Sig 239 (heavier) and the Sig 228 (.38 but easy to conceal).

I have a 26, a PM9 in "small" guns.
At one time, I sold the PM9, bought the Shield, I had it for a few months and sold THAT.
Compare the dimensions and weight of the 26 and the Shield and by the numbers, it didn't add up. Almost the same but less rounds in the Shield.

Went back to the PM9 and couldn't be happier.
Again, compare the numbers.
PM9 is everyday, G26 is for winter or just wanting a change.
