[ANSWERED] Mini 14 Tactical

Originally I was considering getting an M&P Sport II but unfortunately that will not be happening.

One of my neighbors told me to consider the Mini 14, and at first I was hesitant. I noticed the Mini 14 Tactical which seems to have amazing reviews and also has the same features I would like.

Is this gun legal in California, and also would you recommend it?

Lastly, my neighbor said that the Mini 14 would also be a good choice because it isn't under attack like the AR-15 and can't really be outlawed. The Tactical one i linked to has a grip and telescopic stock, is it safe to get or are there laws trying to get rid of this gun too?

The tactical would require a bullet button and would have to be registered as an "assault weapon" due to the evil features.
A regular mini14 would be legal .

What's the disadvantage of registering it as an assault weapon?

Also is it possible to remove the "evil" features temporarily?

The gun laws here in Cali seem to be so stupid and irrational.

Well you've got 2 "evil features" the pistol grip and the telecoping stock. You could pin the stock but I don't know if the pistol grip is removable. I don't know anyone who makes a grip wrap for it.

I know that the AR-15 rifles already have a workaround for registering because of the bullet button reloaded and being able to pivot open the gun.

Is there anything similar for the Mini 14 or is the Tactical version doomed?

With the original aw ban, you could only shoot your aw at a range and not on BLM land which is where I go. I would rather have an AR platform but my older mini is avoiding Imperial entanglements at this time.

I've added a Moreaper muzzle brake and an accu strut. I haven't tried it out since adding the brake. Will remedy that soon.

Mini 14s suck. I'm not even going to church it up.

An AR 15 does everything a Mini 14 does better for less money.

They are inaccuracte, unreliable, and expensive.

[Laws & Compliance] Mini 14 Tactical vs M&P 15 Sport II

I'm stuck when it comes to purchasing a gun.
I want to get the M&P Sport II but my family are completely against me getting it and it just won't be happening as long as I'm living with them.


My neighbor told me I should consider getting a Mini 14 and that they're good rifles and it would difficult for them to be outlawed.
At first I was hesitant because I didn't want a standard rifle, but then I saw the Mini 14 Tactical and I thought it would be a great alternative.

The Mini 14 Tactical does have a pistol grip, collapsible stock, etc... so I'm confused about the legality of it.


I know that the bullet-button will soon no longer suffice "evil" featured rifles, but the AR-15 rifles already have the bullet button reloaded for a workaround.

If I purchase the Mini-14 Tactical, is there anything I can do to keep it legal and not have to register it as an assault weapon?

I don't know if there is something out there but from what I know of the Mini and that it doesn't break open easily you'll either need to be featureless or registered.

Hawkman, if you are trying to figure out what you need to be doing to stay compliant with a Mini-14 with regards to the upcoming changes to the AW laws, you are kind of going about it backwards and upside down.

If not youre going to find a dealer willing to make a maglock before sending it to you and it wont come with the 20rd mag. Also the mags are going to cost you more than double what you can find AR mags for. Plus youll probably have less options for compliance as with the ar as for as aftermarket grips. You dont like the basic mini14 ranch rifles? its has no features and youll be set for next year.

Not that the Mini 14 Ranch rifle is bad, but I like the M&P Sport II and because I can't get that the Mini 14 Tactical seemed like the next best thing.

I would have been willing to pay the $1000+ for the Mini 14 Tactical, but I don't plan on paying that same price for a featureless version.
So I guess the Mini 14 Tactical is out of the question.

Are there other good rifles like the Mini 14 that aren't $1000+?
