You wouldn't last at my gun club.

Your broad statement is absurd. Range officers are there for a purpose; to make sure you go home with the same amount of blood you came in with. Why do some R.O.s yell or insult an offender? Because the rules are laid out (and not difficult to understand) and repeated, yet they have to enforce them time after time again. They put up with a lot of stupid bull****, yet it seems the ones putting up a fuss are the ones breaking the safety rules.

I thank the R.O.s at my club that screamed at the guy, in the next lane, for messing with his rifle while my son and I were changing targets during a ceasefire. I thank them for shutting the range down for a while to deal with the idiot that discharged his handgun into the next bench (20 feet away from me) during a ceasefire (and tearing him a new one). I thank them for treating my 10 year-old son with respect because he follows the rules and treats them with respect.

If a 10 year old can do it, an adult should...

The OP said he was embarrassed, and said that he clearly deserved it and learned his lesson. In response, you reply that he clearly deserved it.

Really? Really? Because I'm pretty sure THAT'S WHAT THE OP JUST SAID!

Why don't you pull the KY out of your ears and listen? Being a hostile little weasel may scare your boyfriend, but it doesn't work around here.

Oh, and before you get all butt-hurt about my comments, they're nothing different than you talking about the OP's Barbies, so pull up your pink panties and MAN UP.

Well here it goes. I figure I might as well post this before I see a "stupid guy at range thread" come up about me. Well I went to the Yolo Sportsmen Assn today for the first time. I've been wanting to go for a while but hadnt had the time, well i show up sign in and all that, then i went to the pistol range all the way to the end and i notice that the other guy there is standing behind the line so I ask him if the range was clear yet because i didnt hear a whistle or anything, so he tells me that the other guy at the other end isn't shooting yet so it should be ok for me to go set up my targets. I'll admit its my first time at a range and i was a little nervous, so i start going to put up my targets and i hear someone shout from the other end and I immediately knew it was at me. It was the Range Officer, the guy with the long hair and I guess the guy at the other end was still sitting at the bench doing something to his gun and the range hadnt been called clear yet. Needless to say I felt so stupid and embarrassed, and the worst part of this was that he called me "little sun shine" in front of everyone including MY GRILFRIEND . And yes I know it was my fault for not paying attention. But I do have to say that apart from this I had a good time and did like the place, the young guy at the office was also very helpful and polite, I had a good time and will definitely go back.

I think the RO's do their best to publicly humiliate those they see doing something unsafe; it make's for a good lesson that will stick with you for the rest of your shooting years, as well as those who observed and don't want to be the object of everyone's attention next.
Don't take it personally, I see it as a necessary evil. Just say to yourself lesson learned and move on.

I used to think some RO's were a-holes, but then I realized that it's a shooting range, not a bowling alley. Mistakes can equal death. Don't take it personally.

Glad you will go back. Pretty sure someone said the young guy in the office, is that guys son. I really like the range, as it tends to be very safe, and not a lot of people. He does yell when someone screws up, but it is the fastest way to avoid problems.
