Listen up 'lil sunshine'. I'd have ridden your a** til I was sure you got the point. I don't give a rat's a** if you were embarrassed in front of God or your Mother AS LONG AS YOU LIVED TO TELL YOUR TALE. Grow some hair and be thankful someone gave a damn about you enough to want you to learn the range procedures.

Firearms are deadly weapons unlike your Barbie dolls. ONE mistake is one too many and could be deadly.

First time! Doesn't mean sh** if someone is hurt. Preventing "hurtness" is a little higher priority than your "feelings".

You couldn't be more wrong. That is a gross generalization. I've dealt with MANY great ROs...far more than I have bad ones.

Maybe they're a-holes to YOU because you don't follow the rules? It's irresponsible of you to make a blanket statement like that.

Never said anything about my "feelings" being hurt or that the guy did anything wrong, and I wasnt complaining. Like I said before, I know I messed up and he was just doing his job, just felt pretty stupid to have done something like that. And yeah I learned the lesson, won't do anything like that again.

That's all that really matters. It's ALL about safety. Don't feel bad, don't worry about the name calling, don't worry about your girlfriend, don't worry about other people at the range, don't worry about anything other than the fact that you learned a valuable lesson. Chances are you'll see many others in that position as you revisit the range(s) in the future.

Some of you think "little sunshine" is derogatory and demeaning? Good grief! I'm sure I was called much worse than that in kindergarten and managed to survive without tears welling up in my eyes, and me running up to tell teacher. Do yourself a favor, and join the service..me thinks you'll learn that "little sunshine" is a long way away from the demeaning insults a range officer might hurl in the direction of someone doing something stupid in a life or death (well, in the case of the military, pretty much any..) situation.

Kudos to the OP for having the nads to share his brain fart....hopefully he'll keep someone from making this mistake...and save them from the trauma of that "little sunshine" label... Maybe you ought to change your board name in honor of your humiliation....

he's just giving you DI treatment. single them out, embarass them in front of others and insult them. its the quickest way to learn when otherwise people dont-freaking-listen.

hes is probably just sick of having to repeat himself at every turn of a dime. nothing personal

but it does become very aggrivating when you are working at a job nobody wants to respect you for, when all you are trying to do is make sure THEY are safe and having fun.

on my own confession, i myself made an error at burro canyon once. it wasn't that big, i sorta wandered over the 'red line' during a line break at burro canyon, while the 21yo RO was clearing weapons to let shooters on the range. he gave me a good yell on the bullhorn and made quite a scene of it "What are you doing? do you not see the rules? please stay behind.. BEHIND the line... thank you.."

at first i was embarassed, and kind of mad and offended at the RO. so i gave him some weird/distasteful looks. but after about 30 minutes i realized its me i should be mad at for not following basic rules. so i decided i should apologize for my idiocy. i walked up to the RO, and before i could even say anything, he opens up and says "im sorry didnt really want to make you look like a child like that, sometimes being nice just doesnt sink in with people"

i told him that i actually appreciated him chewing me out, and that i understood now why the 'good attitude' doesn't fly. the RO will "nicely" Tell someone to not do something, and the person either pretends not to hear you, or tries to argue over it. next thing you know there's an accident

Rule #1: READ the range rules before going to the range.
Rule #2: Range officer have the ultimate authority.
Rule #3: Be prepared to learn from your mistakes QUICK!!!
Rule #4: Your name will change to "Little Ms. Sunshine" if you act stupid at the firing line.

                          This is a cool thread...

                          Thanks for sharing.

Everyone, even people who shoot all day every day, can forget a rule. I've seen RO's break rules. We all have to police each other and keep it safe.

Ahh, nothing like hearing about a butt chewing by a RO.

"Let he who is without an R.O. spanking cast the first stone"

                              LOL!!

It is somewhat normal to "beef" at a new range.

I got yelled at repeatedly for firing faster than one round a second at a range
I went to for the first time. The kicker was my regular range lets one shoot
as fast as they want, and it took a bit till I "broke" my habit.

I think the RO lost some of his voice on me that day.

Thanks for sharing. The RO's are necessary, and a great relief to know they're there and on their toes.
