    Henry AR-7, thank Henry

So I bought this AR-7 and decided to put it together and try it out. The rifle went together easy enough and fired fairly regularly, would not always go to battery after each shoot, but I expected this as I heard they are picky about ammo used, (I'm still tring to find out what it likes) as for accuracy it was not to bad. So anyway when I went to take it down the bolt that holds the buttstock to the receiver was crossed threaded and stripped out almost to a solid connection, as I had no tools with me I used one of the mags. to turn it, (not very good for the mag!). After 15 minutes I got it apart and the bolt's lead looked like it was chewed up real bad and the mag well not pretty at all.
So I packed it all up and took it to my FFL as it was bran new and explained what was going on, he sent it back to Henry explaining what was wrong and 4 weeks later I got it back in new condition and the mag had been replaced too.
Put it together and took it apart and the bolt works fine now, only need to figure out what ammo it likes and I'll be real happy.
Thanks Henry for taking care of the problem in a timely manor.

A sign of a good firearm is rarely the amount of money invested in the gun itself, but the amount of money the company will invest in YOUR gun to insure you get a proper working gun.

EVERY company, even the fanboy ones, will get bad apples from time to time. It's how the company responds to these bad apples that really shows you what type of company they are.

    Good on you Henry!

Henry is prety good about supporting their guns....

That being said, their version of the AR7 tends to need a LOT of support

keep an eye on the receiver on the threads near the indexing slot, they often get cracks there after only a few rounds...

and the stocks get crossthreaded a lot

      and... lots of other stuff

Thanks, It does get the stares and quite a few comments when I pull it out of the case. One guy wanted to know if it was some type of special target rifle. Another guy said he thought those rifles where illegal. You know I like the description you gave "AR 7.5", mind if I use it?

In my personal opinion, the whole concept of the AR-7 design is ruined when you add accessories like that. The AR-7 that fits into it's floating buttstock is just about the perfect survival weapon. Adding optics, stocks, etc is just adding bulk to a design that is not that great in and of itself. About a half dozen of companies have tried and no one can improve upon that design. Seriously, why would anyone want to alter it? At least they aren't putting a CAR stock on it yet....

I agree with you NeoWeird the AR7 was designed to be a survival tool for crashed pilots and such, thats why it was designed to float in its buoyant stock. When you start adding to it, or changing its configuration you change the design concept, might as well buy a different rifle at that point. I was lucky enough to, be given one as a gift, its an older Charter Arms version it loves a diet of Aguilar supermaximum hyper velocity 30 grain rounds and hates anything which has a hollow point. It also hates remington. the only draw back on this weapon is you need to completely strip the receiver down for a good cleaning, which isn't that hard as long as your careful to see how it all goes back together. I probably go 5 to 6 hundred rounds before the dirt builds up so much that it starts to fail on recycling the next round.

You have the right to voice your opinion and I respect it. However, we all have our own tastes. Some guys like AR's others do not. I didn't buy it for a survival rifle as it was designed to be. I bought it with the intention of doing what I did to it. Of course should I decide to, I can change it back within 5 minutes so it can be converted back to the original survival design.

I think we respect your tastes to, just some of us are purists, and seeing how this is such a remarkable rifle in its original design concept its worth noteing when a thread like this comes around, i think your weapon looks great even evil, but then im way to boring to follow your lead.

I like the simplistic design of the AR-7. I am yet to pick one up, but I do see one in my future.

OK so with all you that have one and shoot it, what ammo performs best in it.
