Was just recently put to use, maybe early Nov. It is state law just a different category, ie. Vehicle, Business and Proffesional, Penal, etc. This is PC for a stop, recieve a ticket, and be detained. Other categories of it were passing out flyers, nudity, soliciting, damaging plant life, and a few others I don't recall.

This only applies to non-affiliates of the school. LEO friend of mine said it came to be primarily due to the protests occurring on University campuses by non affiliates, mainly the tree sits that occurred at Berkeley and Santa Cruz.

I think the reason is that everyone stops reading after the PC states "dirk or dagger" and fail to continue on the read that "dirk or dagger" simply means any knife that can be readily used for stabbing. This means even if it is a non-locking pocket knife, if it is open and concealed, it is a dirk of dagger.

Most people use the common definition of dirk or dagger, i.e. a double bladed knife, where California has defined it differently.

The main thing is read the PC and read it thoroughly, then ask questions, then go back and read it again, then ask more questions.

It's fixed blade, and I would be carrying it concealed...
        Is this little guy legal?

Nope, not legal if carried concealed.

              "that's not a knife!"

              LOL

I wonder about that also. I carry a little 4" folding. It folds out to around 7ish inches. Against another knife fighter, you have to know your stuff. A sword cane would be better, but not quite legal. A buddy does carry a spring loaded steel whip. He also carried a dual batons or a single "mace" type baton.

Having grown up in the Bronx does that type of stuff to you.
              anyways good luck

No non-affiliate IE: (non student, faculty, or staff) shall, on University property, carry upon his/her person or have in his/her possession or under his/her control any Dangerous Weapon. For purposes of this Section, "Dangerous Weapon" means and includes, but is not limited to:

                    A. Any firearm in violation of the Gun-Free School Zone Act of 1995, California Penal Code section 626.9.

                    B. Any knife having a blade two and one-half inches or more in length.

                    C. Any folding knife with a blade that locks into place.

                    D. Any ice pick or similar sharp tool that can be used as a stabbing implement capable of inflicting serious bodily injury.

                    E. Any razor with an unguarded blade.

                    F. Any cutting, stabbing or bludgeoning weapon or device capable of inflicting serious bodily injury.

                    G. Any dirk or dagger.
Till44, do you have a better citation for this? It isn't in California Education Code - that has 'knife' in 48915, and it's very different from what you wrote, above.

                    Education Code 92440.5 is
92440.5. (a) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, to the
extent that the regents adopt or amend a rule or regulation
pertaining to the governance and maintenance of the buildings and
grounds of the University of California pursuant to this section,
addressing the conduct of persons who are not students, officers, or
employees of the University of California when that conduct is a
threat to persons or property or constitutes interference with
functions or activities of the university, the violation of that rule
or regulation is a misdemeanor. .....
                    - nothing at all to do with weapons, but it DOES give the regents the authority to make rules for non-students. Perhaps some UC regs someplace?

Look up the specifics yourself, but my guess is that you will be pleasantly surprised. And might I recommend any of the Kershaw assisted opening models? They are inexpensive, good designs, and comply with all of the state laws.

You can also legally open carry a sheathed sword around, no max blade length in the law.

To check if yours meets the law, slowly move the blade towards the handle and see if it snaps itself closed at the end.

You can only carry a closed folder concealed legally, all fixed blade knives have to be carried openly in a sheath attached to your belt.
