    Knife Question? CA Carry laws?

Can we legally carry a pocket knife?
What's the legal blade lenght that we can carry around?

*Sorry i know it's not gun related, but wasn't sure where to post.

Use the search BUTTON. long story short for folding knives no limit. Fix blade knives there is no limit as long as you do not conceal it(concealing is a felony)PC 12020 as far as the state law goes. Also there are exceptions such as schools such as k-12 has strict laws. College no limit for folding but fix blades over i think 2 inches or 2.5 inches are mostly illegal. Also local areas might have a law for open carry fix blade knives such as LA city. I am sure someone will post the exact law on here shorty, i am too lazy to find it since i am using a different computer.

Believe it or not, California actually has some very good knife laws. As long as you stay away from switchblades with blades over 2 inches, and don't carry a fixed blade knife concealed, you are good to go everywhere except schools and some public buildings. Look up the specifics yourself, but my guess is that you will be pleasantly surprised. And might I recommend any of the Kershaw assisted opening models? They are inexpensive, good designs, and comply with all of the state laws.

Laws regarding college campuses has recenlty changed. Check out the new education code:

        SECTION 100015. WEAPONS.

        C. Any folding knife with a blade that locks into place.

        D. Any ice pick or similar sharp tool that can be used as a stabbing implement capable of inflicting serious bodily injury.

        E. Any razor with an unguarded blade.

Switchblade - automatic opening with use of a button or something other than putting force on the blade or on a thumbstud.

Not a switchblade - to open the knife requires physical effort applied to the blade or a thumbstud (or disk or whatever) to open. The blade can also not open by force of gravity, rather it should have resistence towards opening.

In schools, I think the length is <3". For switchblades, it's lawful to own under 2"..and CA has a big market of 1.9" switchblades! Los Angeles??? I hear you just shouldn't have a knife at all! lol

Can you provide any context for this? It would appear to heavily conflict with PC 626.10. Is the "education code" the same as state law?

Automatic knives are a misdemeanor only if you are in possession while on the
              street.
It is ok to have one in the trunk of your car or home though. Funny but hey,
they wrote the law that way.

Here is a good starting point for knife laws.

Yeah, I want to know about this one as well. I schooled a cop on knife law not too long ago and I do not want to be in the legal wrong...

The weirdest part is that the section quoted above appears to only apply to non-students/non-faculty on university property.

Used to carry my SRK strapped to my leg while hiking or cruising on the MC. Sheath broke. Time to order a new one.

That is interesting. Any background information on this law is appreciated.

Funny enough, a friend of mine who lives in LA was beaten up by some gang banger who thought that my friend was hitting on his girlfriend (he wasn't) and when the cops showed up they actually laughed at him for not carrying a knife and recomended he buy one before going home that night.

Worst part was that if you look at the security footage you see an obvious gang member (tattoos on neck, red shirt 4x too large, etc) beating up a man in a business suit as passers by take a half second look and then turn their heads strait and just walk away faster. Tons of people walked by, and no one called the cops or tried to stop it.

Just to give you a point of view of one of my old open carry knife(the bottem one) for night time...now a use a knife slightly smaller. FYI there seems to be double sided blade FUD on this forum....not sure why??
