Ammo Price Question

That doesn't sound like much of a deal... for $25 more per 1k for 9mmyou can find factory ammo.

I agree with the others about buying reloads and the risk associated with it... personally I wont fire a reload someone else made.

FM has had more than their share of issues (do a search) and they are not interested in changing their process to improve them. I had several failures-to-feed and stovepipes with their 40SW ammo, and ended up with an overpressure condition which caused a KB in my pistol. And I am far from the only one.

FM acted like it was normal (which I found out it is for them). I went through the return process (which also felt like they do it a lot) and will never buy from them again. In fact, they cured me of reloads forever. (Except for mine, when I eventually start doing them.)

Some guys will say, "Hey, if it's only a couple of rounds out of a batch of 500, so what?" like it is not a big deal. Well, all it takes is one KB to change your life forever. Me? I'm not willing to take the risk... ending up with one eye, saying to myself...
"Boy, I wish I had spent another $.02 per round..."

Point well made. I guess I never really realized that reloads have such a high incidence of accidents. I guess I'll just burn through what I have and start buying Factory new. Is there a website or in particular that you find the best deals on?

• SG Ammo
• Cabela's (only if you watch for sales)
• Gander Mountain (again, only sales)
• Palmetto State Armory (look for sales)

SG has decent prices all the time. Get on the mailing list for the others and/or monitor them for good deals.

Its not that reloads themselves are dangerous or have a high accident or incident level, its just that you have no idea what type of care, quality control, brass inspection, and skill went into making it...

You can have an operator or machine malfunction and end up with a 9mm ammo loaded in a 380 case, a squib load, double charge, or just poorly make / inconsistent ammo on top of that with the mixed brass...

Most people who do shoot reloads end up making it themselves and can make safe ammo they would be confident in shooting.

If you're not familiar with reloads just stay away. Like others have said the difference in buying factory ammo is worth the safety precaution.

Now if you ever get into reloading you're own stuff that's a different story. You'll be in control and have the potential to make ammo that's similar or even better than factory ammo, customized to your liking.

What's considered a good deal on ammo?

Is this considered good enough that I should stock up on a few thousand rounds or should I look elsewhere?

- 115gr 9mm 1000 rounds 174.99= 17.5 cents per round
- 230gr 45 ACP 500 rounds 129.99= 26 cents per round

This is available local to me so I wouldn't have to pay for shipping.

Wally-Wurld has some discounted stuff now and then. Reloading will save some bucks but it takes time after the initial payout for equipment unless you buy stuff used from guys in here or friends. Best way I have found is to buy in bulk while on the road out of state (AZ-NV) or from Miwall at local gunshows. They have good prices on their reloads (and factory ammo), and the quality is outstanding. Prices have gone up dramatically, and are way out of control given the politics in ths crazy state.

There has been a cycle with pricing for many years. I buy new 9mm brass in sizeable quantities (2K-4K, sizeable to me!) when it's under $0.20 shipped to my door then watch prices go up again before they inevitably fall.

I buy roughly twice what I shoot, that keeps my stash growing.
