First, nothing is free. Secondly, the grandfather in Chicago that needs a firearm for protection (look up recent court case) most likely does not have the resources, time or physical ability for militia training.

Will criminals undergo 'government-mandated firearms training' before purchasing and using guns? I'm thinking not.

I should have added that I definitely don't actually think it would help deter crime whatsoever.

I just found it refreshing that a gun control proponent thought of something besides a ban.

I hope I am wrong, but I just feel like another assault weapon ban is coming and this time more permanent than the last.

I'd love to see the militia make a strong comeback.

There are too many negatives than there are positives to solve the mass shooting problems.

So let's say this type of bill/mandate goes forward. What would it look like? Since ISIS/ISIL are not allowed since they are insurrgents, how can we determine who is taking advantage of this regulated training? How much would it cost and what are the qualifications? We would be that "every citizen is a soldier" state.

We need better solutions or better plans with regard to limiting mass shootings.

This might work until 2 days later when the news reports that a mass shooter had the required gun training as still went on a rampage. Then there will be the same uproar for more regulations. Fail.
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

Ok, lets start the training at the elementary school level. Required learning, reading, writing, reloading, and recon!

It doesn't say you have to be in a Militia to possess a firearm. It says that by not messing with the people's inate right to own weapons, we will be able to form a competent armed militia if needed.

Another compromise? Nope. Always a bad idea. They'll keep pushing the line farther and farther until you entirely forget that the Second Amendment was never supposed to have been infringed AT ALL but it'll be too late.

I don't know, maybe, if they give up the roster, high cap ban, and institute a "Shall Issue" policy statewide?

When it becomes government mandated, it will not work.
NRA, GOA, GOC, Boy Scouts, Church sponsors would be terrific and it would need to be voluntary with a patch or pin or hat or something to show completion for bragging rights.
Most people would be willing to pay for the instructor if necessary, but many qualified instructors would likely volunteer their time.

Outstanding idea, but unpopular due to the strings attached.

What we really need is pressure cooker control.
