FFL's refusing to PPT AK pistols?

I have had two FFLs in the last month now refuse to PPT AK pistols that I was selling. Both times, buyers were ok with driving to the nearest Turners (in Corona and Victorville respectively) and PPTs happened without issue but I just thought I would let people know that is happening.

Now with that said, I don't blame the FFLs for doing it. AK pistols are extremely rare and I wouldn't want to risk the potential liability of doing something wrong with DROSing one and looking up that info for the $10 a PPT pays is not really worth the investment. Both shops were small mom and pop types (Annies Get Your Gun in Corona and Route 66 Guns and Ammo in Barstow) that were extremely friendly and the people at Annies were actually already doing a PPT when I walked in so I do not want to imply that they are an FFL who complains about PPTs. They were very apologetic and sincere but they just were uncomfortable with taking on that business, and I don't blame them given the current political climate in this state and with Clinton's BS about suing manufacturers and dealers.

Anyways, moral of the story here is if any of you are going to be doing PPTs for extra scary guns, I'd suggest doing the transfer at a chain like Turners or AmmoBros.

Ehh, i understand why the smaller shops dont want to deal with it. Why open yourself up to DOJ scrutiny if you do it wrong

Other than the fact that they are required to do so by law, of course, just like they lobbied for.

Eh, I don't understand why ANY shops want to break the law and jeopardize their license by not doing a completely legal PPT as mandated.

Why open yourself up to DOJ scrutiny, because not doing it is wrong?

Are we talking single shot pistols here or what? I didnt even know that you could have semi ak or ar pistols in PRK.

Purchased during SSE prior to Brown signing the bill restricting it and it going in force, owner conversion to semi-auto, and now available as a PPT.

Same thing happened to me when I wanted to PPT an AR pistol at Alamo Pawn in West Covina. They said their policy is to only do PPTs on AR pistols if you are a LEO (Which I understand and respect). I just went down the street to turners and did the PPT there.

Looks like the the Brady's plan is working quite well in California. They now have some FFL's in this state scared to do legal transfers. And the they didn't even have to make it illegal. Brilliant!

Spencers in Madera did the same thing to me. They denied the ppt, said the gun was illegal and then tried to tell the buyer it wasn't a good idea to buy it due to the new laws surrounding ar pistols. Thanks Spencers for helping perpetuate the problem.

I had a shop tell me no you can't transfer that here because that guns illegal. Went to a shop down the street and transferred it. Just an ak pistol that was perfectly legal.

Stoney Creek Arms in Yorba Linda PPT's AK pistols. They're a great little shop, mom n pop type FFL.

LOL. Please show me where PC 28065 says anything other than if they don't sell handguns, they don't have to PPT handguns. I'm a little slow and can't find where it makes any distinction about types of handguns or how they apply to the roster.

28065. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a dealer who
does not sell, transfer, or keep an inventory of handguns is not
required to process private party transfers of handguns.

                              Exactly!

And axel, bullseye is my favorite FFL north of me (in Perris). West coast Ammo is my absolute favorite but they're in temecula so I don't get as many PPTs down that way
