S&W 3906 Before & After

I just tried a 1st-2nd gen model 39/439 type 8 round magazine in a 3rd gen model 909 full size single stack and the 8 shot magazine is too short to lock in to place. Actually there is 4 lengths of S&W 9mm single stack magazines not counting guns like the single stack compact Sigma SW9m which takes a different style of magazine entirely.

Interesting.

The double stack 59 series mags seem to work across generations, as well as the single stack 45 series mags.

I don't have a 39 series (yet). Wouldn't mind picking one up one of these days.

4506 mags seem to be the same for 2nd and 3rd gens excdpt for length of course on compacts like 457 and 4615. Now I'm curious on 59 series because I think 2nd and 3rd gen interchange but the 2nd gen full capacity ones only hold 14 I believe not 15. Then of course there is the 6906 types I think those interchange with say a 2nd gen 469 but there could be some weird Performace Center compact double stack mag I don't remember.

Because there was a weird model like a 3946 or something from the Performance Center that used a mag even shorter than a 3913.

I own a 3906.
And it came with factory 8rd mags. I later received newer 9rd factory mags from S&W customer service free after a courtesy call.
