There is quite a difference between being responsible & concerned for your safety and going full tinfoil. If you truly were that worried you wouldn't shoot at that range no matter how close and convenient it was.

I was at ASR on Monday the 2nd, from about 10-3. There was a guy on the rifle range, closest to the office, with full camo, boots, LBE and plates. Had the matching beard and everything. We couldn't help but laugh, he looked exactly like Zero. I guess if it makes you feel safer, or more confident, I cant fault that. But I might laugh.

that being said, I do bring mine out to BLM/desert. so only my friends can laugh at me.

So the possibility of falling on your head doesn't exist? Traumatic brain injuries are so serious that I don't really understand why anyone wouldn't take the proper precautions to avoid them. Seems like common sense to me

Do you wear a helmet walking on the sidewalk? How about while hiking? How about while jumping rock to rock on the jetty? The amount of damage you can do to your head by simply falling down because your foot got caught on some uneven pavement while you were staring at your phone and walking down the street is potentially fatal. It seems like common sense would say we should be wearing helmets all the time since the potential for traumatic brain injury exists.

In 25+ years of skiing I've yet to suffer a traumatic brain injury. I know how I ski, I know my range of experience, I know the risks I take and I pay attention to what I'm doing. I imagine my risk of suffering a traumatic brain injury is significantly reduced compared to the hoards of phone zombies walking in traffic every day.

Obviously everyone's free to do as they please. I personally don't think the risk is worth it. It might be tough to keep up the tough guy schitck when trying to re-learn how to eat with a spoon.

So don't wear one, but caring about the gear that anyone else choose to run , unless it makes them a hazard to others is pretty rediculous.

I think caring is a bit of a stretch. Having a laugh at someone hardly equates to giving it much more thought. Yesterday someone posted a photo of a guy with a boot for a hat, I laughed, but hardly gave it much thought following that.

My coworkers down the hall from me have plate carriers, helmets, and ammo pouches, and they rarely wear the gear. It's heavy and not comfortable. Why would anyone wear this stuff at a recreational shooting range?

My position is that paying attention while skiing is safer and less prone to fatal or debilitating head injury than not paying attention while walking down the street.

How many skiiers suffer fatal or debilitating head injuries every year? How many pedestrians suffer fatal or debilitating head injuries every year? Normalize the data to per capita and run the comparison. Go forth and do the math, or live a blissfully ignorant life scared of any experience you can't have every day.

Suffice to say, if you walk through a busy intersection you should probably wear a helmet.

To get used to the weight. How is anyone supposed to get used to something if they never wear it? Wear it if you want to OP. It's no ones business.
