Who here railed & decided against it?

When I was younger I always wanted a 1911 with a rail ~ Super sweet, bas@ss, tactical pew pew. Although after owning one, I was totally over the rail & sold it in short order......

Who else has come to the realization that railed pistols just ain't for them?

Meh, if it shoots where I point it, I'm not too concerned about rails.
    Sorry, not sorry.

I decided against it because I don't use it for tactical super secret baby seal operator stuff so I don't mount anything on my 1911's .

The only one I have with rail is a SIG that I got because I found it on consignment at my LGS so I got it spur of the moment kinda thing and it had a rail on it .

You could always go full length dust cover and forget the rail...

Oppositely - If you had wished you had gotten a rail you could always get one of these after the fact

                I like this Reasoning.

Unless if you need to carry the 1911 with a light for duty (required by Dept)or use a 1911 for home defense (makes sense having a light mounted), there is no need for a rail on a 1911 or any hand gun for that matter. And, a railed 1911 with a mounted light is an odd looking and unergonomic contraption that you can not stick anywhere but into a custom made holster.

Fact is, a 1911 does not have a rail as designed, same as a Rolls Royce Phantom which does not come with a big fugly Air Spoiler on the trunk.

Rails on a 1911 is a Modern Tacticool feature added by I don't know who. Hence, the model/name "2011" was made to refers to a gun that looks like a 1911 with a rail under the barrel for a light/extra weight/punisher or bad a** look/ or other Tacticool purposes.

Don't consider myself tacticool but I do like the look of a half rail on a .45.

I'm not partial to the full or half rail look, but I do love the monolith look!

Some of the newer 45's don't come with a choice. So I made the best of it. Don't see much rail once the light/laser is mounted.

To each his own but I don't understand why not . To me it's like night sights , sure you may never need them but why not have them . It's not like the firearm is in some way defective with them . I don't know , it seems like selling your AR because it has QD sling mounts and you don't have that type of sling .

I'm not sure about you guys but I've changed my mind and or thoughts about something enough times in my life to know limiting my options is not my best way of doing things . FWIW I don't have a rail on my 1911 but there's no way a rail on a 1911 would stop me from buying it .

My XD has a rail and I have every intention of putting a light on it seeing how it's my HD firearm .

Night sights, slings & AR rails can be changed out ~ Railed 1911 frame not so easy.....

My point was more along the lines . You by your 1911 because it has a rail and you plan to mount something to it . You later find it impractical to mount to that gun . Why sell the gun ? The rail is not stopping the gun from functioning correctly .

I have a better example . My first two ARs have the heavy barrel profile . Not bull but the thinnest part of the barrels are .750" . I did this because I wanted my barrel more ridgid for a few reasons . Fast forward years later and I've found no benefit to having the thicker heavier barrels . I'm not going to get rid of them just because the barrels did not benefit me the way I thought they would . The guns work great they just weigh about 3/4 of a pound more with no real benefit . It's just extra weight not needed .

Get both! My railed 1911 will be getting a tlr1 for hd duty to compliment the 20ga. My non railed is a cco and is usually my daily carry. This is a silly argument. It's like saying I don't like Magwells on a 1911 cause that's not how they were originally designed even if there is a benefit to them.
