I got a sort of funny story. I have a Filipino coworker who had never fired a gun before and was terrified of guns but at the same time fascinated by the idea of shooting one. It took me months to talk him into going to the range with me.
I first invited him over to my apartment and gave him the safety lesson, taught him to handle a gun properly. "OMG, I'm so scared I've never been this close to a gun before, I'm literally having goosebumps", he told me. I rolled my eyes internally but gave him encouragement for trying to overcome his fear.
So, I took him to the range, and since it's his first time, and since he's conquering his fear, I paid for the range fees, and a let him shoot over $100 worth of my ammo. I'm just nice guy.
Anyway, after the range, he admits that he had a blast (literally and figuratively), and loved the experience, and understands better that a gun will not just jump up and bite him.
I told him, "you know, there's a lot of people who don't understand guns, and are irrationally terrified of them. One of them is this guy named Gavin Newsom. He wants to make it so that people like me can't buy ammunition in bulk online. Criminals aren't going to obey laws anyway. I'd consider it a personal favour if you could help me vote "no" on that thing if it makes it onto the ballot in November."
He then told me, "Oh, you don't need to worry about me voting for anti-gun bills, I can't vote! I'm not a citizen."
FACEPALM. I spent months persuading him, and spent >$100 showing him a good time at the range to try to woo a vote out of him, and the bastard can't vote!!! Argh!!! I know it's good to have people on our "side" in general, and I know that passing on a love and understanding of firearms is its own reward, but...I was hoping to get a vote out of it!
