Is this smith local? If yes, I'd go in at this point.
If not, I would definitely have been on the phone at the 10 week mark. And weekly after that. At this point I would ask him to return it unless he's been in the hospital.
6 months is way too much.

well he already offered to send the gun back just with no work done, and you said you would wait 8 more weeks, so at this point just wait 8 more weeks or take him up on the offer and find a new smith.

If he hasn't done anything in 6 months, and unless he is the only person in the U.S. that can do what you want done, get the gun returned to you. What will happen is he will do nothing in the next 8 weeks, and all you'll have is wasted time.
You may not like guns, and choose not to own one. That is your right. You might not believe in God. That is your choice. However, if someone breaks into your home, the first two things you're going to do are, 1) Call someone with a gun, 2) Pray they get there in time.

I would've started calling him after 4 weeks overdue. It's my gun and my money. If you don't want my money, give me my gun back.

Assuming you believe him this time, he probably forgot about it and it was sitting in a corner. Kind of like the accounts payable department. they do not do anything for you on time until you call a few times. Then they look into it.

Please tell us what was changes were being done to the gun.

Got good news. He will also pay shipping and insurance . It's turning out ok now . Still wish it was home months ago . But good things come to those who wait . Honestly I would rather wait for a good smith . He is highly skilled as far as work quality .

Wow, 6 months to fix a loose extractor.

You could have got one and put it in with tuning in less than 30 minutes.

Trigger pull was just under 5lbs. Hand cycles with dummy ammo ok . trigger bow slightly tweaked. the breech face has been polished, and the disconnector track. still needs to refit extractor and set tension. stone/polish trigger track, feed ramp/barrel throat and chamber. then set up fire control parts . Its in the works. so the anwser to your ? is not just a loose extractor. I dont send my stuff to just anybody . He is 1 of the best in the country . every other great smith is booked solid. even CGW is not taking work. everybody is overloaded for the next 3-6 months. thats the 411

Thanks for the update. Sounds like the typical gunsmith over estimate of the ETA.

I'm going on 6 months for a simple 1911 job and no call back as to progress. It may be my last time I give this gunsmith business.
