Not a recent thing. I remember the shoot-it-up-and-leave-it mentality was far worse in the '70s and '80s. Moreover, you couldn't drive down a rural road on the way to shooting range without seeing shot up traffic signs. Most people are better these days -- but there are still some idiots who don't get that shoot-it-up-and-leave-it means more and more public shooting areas will get closed over time.

Just yesterday I saw some bozos shooting up a tv on BLM land here in AZ. It happens everywhere.

First thing my granddaughter asked me was if I brought trash bags with me. We all picked up more than we brought.

I try to shoot reusable targets as much as possible. The kids love shooting steel.

One of the places where I used to shoot (BLM land) got closed due to all the inbred white trash hooligans and methheads that dumped everything including the kitchen sink at every shooting spot there was. These idiots shot up outhouses, telephone poles, campgrounds and had absolutely no respect whatsoever. Also saw some "decent" family, clean cut types doing the same thing, so it wasn't just the hooligans doing it all.

The one big difference is this trash hurts us here by giving the anti's ammo. In other states no one seems to care that much.

Growing up in Oklahoma and spending a lot of time in Texas, I can tell you that shooting out in public lands is very limited or non existent. So I'd venture to say that CA is the exception rather than the rule.

I suspect a lot of the trash and litter is from a tiny minority of shooters. I also suspect they're likely prohibited from owning firearms or well on their way to being prohibited from owning firearms.

Unfortunately, they do a tremendous amount of damage to all gun owner's reputations. They're the same scumbags that shoot up road signs for everyone to see and then label all gun owners as yahoos.
